Asmytrainwasnotduetoleaveforanotherhour,Ihadplentyoftimetospare.Afterbuyingsomemagazinestoreadonthejourney,ImademywaytotheluggageofficetocollecttheheavysuitcaseIhadlefttherethreedaysbefore.Therewereonlyafewpeoplewaiting,andItookoutmywallettofindthereceiptformycase.ThereceiptdidnotseemtobewhereIhadleftit.Iemptiedthecontentsofthewallet,andrailwaytickets,money,scraps*ofpaper,andphotographstumbled*outofit;butnomatterhowhardIsearched,thereceiptwasnowheretobefound.

Whenmyturncame,Iexplainedthesituationsorrowfullytotheassistant.Themanlookedatmesuspiciouslyasiftosaythathehadheardthistypeofstorymanytimesandaskedmetodescribethecase.Itoldhimthatitwasanold,brown-lookingobjectnodifferentfromthemanycasesIcouldseeontheshelves.

Theassistantthengavemeaformandtoldmetomakealistofthechiefcontentsofthecase.Iftheywerecorrect,hesaid,Icouldtakethecaseaway.ItriedtorememberallthearticlesIhadhurriedlypackedandwrotethemdownastheycametome.AfterIhaddonethis,Iwenttolookamongtheshelves.Therewerehundredsofcasesthereandforonedreadfulmoment,itoccurredtomethatifsomeonehadpickedthereceiptup,hecouldhaveeasilyclaimed*thecasealready.Thishadnothappenedfortunately,forafteratime,Ifoundthecaselyingonitssidehighupinacorner.Afterexaminingthearticlesinside,theassistantwassoonsatisfiedthatitwasmineandtoldmeIcouldtakethecaseaway.AgainItookoutmywallet:
