“Iamexcitedtobeabletoturnpainintobeautyandthisexhibitionisjustrecordingeverythingthatishappeningtousasasociety,”Toledosaid.Theartworks,whichwillgoonshowfromSeptemberinapublicspaceindowntownBuenosAires,willallbemadefromwastematerialsorgarbagethatpeoplesendhim.“ItisthefirsttimethatIhavedoneanexhibitioninwhichIdonothavetobuyanyoftheelements,”hesaid.

RembrandtvanRijn’smostfamouswork,TheNightwatchwascommandedin1639byFranzBan-ninckCocq,thecaptainofAmsterdam’scivilarmy,andportrayedhimandhis17members:

In2019,officialsofAmsterdam’sRijksmuseumdecidedtorecreatethemissingsections.Theteam,ledbyscientist,RobertErdmann,turnedtoanewAIalgorithm(算法),whichhelpscomputersfigureoutwhatimagesmayhaveoncelookedlike.ThescientistsscannedimagesoftheoriginalandLundens’paintingtothecomputer.TheAIwasabletostudythepainting’sperspective.ItalsorecognizedtheexactcolorsusedbytheDutchmasterandcouldevencopyhisbrushstrokes(笔画).

The“missing”stripswereprintedandaddedtothepainting.Theleftsideincludedtwomenwatchingtheeventandayoungboyrunningawayfromthearmy.Adrummerandabarkingdogwereaddedtothepainting’srightside.

“ItisspectacularbecausewhatRembrandtpaintedwasCaptainFranzorderinghissoldierstomarchout,andthatisnowexactlywhatyousee,”saidTacoDibbits.“Withtheaddition,especiallyontheleftandthebottom,anemptyspaceiscreatedinthepaintingwheretheymarchtowards.Whenthepaintingwascut,thesoldierswereinthecenter,butRembrandtintendedthemtobeoff-centermarchingtowardsthatemptyspace,andthatisthegeniusthatRembrandtunderstands:
