TheOfficialUNLanguages
TheUnitedNationswasfoundedin1945afterWorldWarⅡtostopwarsbetweencountries,andtoprovideaplatformfordialogue.TheheadquartersoftheUnitedNationsisinNewYork.Thereare193membersnow.TheofficiallanguagesoftheUnitedNationsarethesixlanguages.TheyareArabic,Chinese,English,French,RussianandSpanish.
WhentheUNwasfounded,fiveofficiallanguageswerechosen:
English,French,Chinese,RussianandSpanish.Arabicwasaddedin1973.Theselanguagesareusedatmeetings.Theyarealsousedforthedisseminationofofficialdocuments.ThesesixlanguagesareallworkinglanguagesintheGeneralAssemblyandintheEconomicandSocialCouncil.TheyarealsotheworkinglanguagesoftheSecurityCouncil.TheworkinglanguagesattheUNSecretariatareonlyEnglishandFrench.
