YangChen,SISReferenceYangChen,SIS孙复初教授在“英汉大词典关于倍数的两处错误”一文中指出：

“Longman,Oxford,Webster原文词典的释义说明twofold和double,doubly,totwotimes,bytwotimes以及threefold和tothreetimes,bythreetimes是同义的。

“根据我收集的英美原著的许多例句也说明atwofoldincrease,increasetwofold,increasebytwotimes都表示增加到两倍或增加一倍（而不是增加两倍）；increasebythreefold和increasebythreetimes都表示增加到三倍或增加两倍（而不是增加三倍）。

”YangChen,SIS此外，英语中还有一种用again而不用倍数词来比较倍数的方法，如：

aisasmuchagainasb.=aistwiceasmuchasb.应译为：

a比b多1倍。

aishalfasmuchagainasb.=aisoneandahalftimesasmuchasb.应译为：

a比b多一半（即a是b的一倍半）。

N.B.中文增加倍数的译法YangChen,SIS汉语表示倍数有两类表达方法（n指倍数）：

“甲的大小是乙的n倍”（包括基数）“甲已增加到乙的n倍”（包括基数）“甲比乙增加了n倍”（不包括基数，只表示净增倍数）“甲比乙翻了n番”（不包括基数）这就给翻译时带来不便且容易误译！

在英译汉时通常的作法是：

若用不包括基数的汉语句型时，则须在原文的倍数中减去1（即n-1）。

在汉译英时，首先要仔细区分是包括基数在内的增加倍数还是净增倍数，然后决定用ntimes还是（n+1）times.去年这个公司的手机销量增长了一倍。

（增加到原来的两倍）Thesalesvolumeofmobilephonesofthiscompanyincreasednearlytwicelastyear.值得一提的是，当原文中的倍数非常巨大，通常只是一种估计，而不是精确的数据时，则汉译时通常倍数与原文相同而不加变动（即可不遵循原则）。

RadiationintheX-rayrangewouldbeonemilliontimesbrighterthanthatfromanX-raytube.同步加速器辐射的亮度比射线管所发出的大万倍（通常不必译为，倍）。
