Waitoutsidetheexaminationroomuntiltheexaminerinvitesyouin.Ifyouentertheroomunasked,youmaydisturbtheexaminer(whichislikelytoputhim/herinabadmood!

Atthebeginning,simplygreettheexaminerwith“Hello”or“Goodafternoon”.Theexaminerwillguideyouthroughthetest.Attheendsimplysay“Thankyou.Good-bye.”Thenleavetheroom.Inparticular,avoidpoeticphrasessuchas“Ithasbeenagreatpleasureandhonourtohavesuchawonderfulandlovelydiscussionwithyou.”Theexaminerisjustdoingajob.UsingsuchphrasesindicatesthatyoucannotuseEnglishappropriately!

GivingyournameandyourIDcard

Someexaminersdon'tlikeitifyougivethemyourIDcardbeforetheyaskforit.Othersdon’tmind.Playitsafeandwaituntilyouareaskedforit.MakesurethatyourIDcardisthesameoneyouusedtoregisterforthetest,oryoumaynotbeallowedtotakethetest.

Part1timing

Inpart1,theexaminerwillaskyouabout3topicsforatotalof4–5minutes.Thatmeansanaverageof90secondspertopic.Theexaminerwilltrytoaskyou3–4questionspertopic,soyouraverageanswershouldbe20–30secondslong.Ofcourse,youwillprobablygive1–2longeranswersand1–2shorterones,whichisfine.Justmakesurethatyouraverageansweris20–30secondslong.Iftheexaminerfeelsthatyouransweristoolong,he/shemaystopyou.Thisisnotaproblemunlessyouhavebeenrepeatingyourselfornotansweringthequestion.

Besuretocreateagoodexpressionbyansweringthesequestionsparticularlywell.Ifyoucannotanswerthesequestionswell,youaretellingtheexaminerthatyouareunpreparedforthetest.

”Youcanjustgiveasimpleanswerandthentheexaminerwillcontinue.

Donotspendtoomuchtimeansweringonequestionoransweringquestionsononetopicfromthe3theexaminerwillaskyouaboutinpart1.Thisindicatestotheexaminerthatyouhavepreparedverywellforonequestionortopicwhichcouldappearinthetestandmaynotwanttoriskbeingaskedaquestiononanothertopic.Evenanaveragestudentisexpectedtobeabletotalkaboutseveraldifferenttopics.
