If you enter the room unasked, you may disturb the examiner (which is likely to put him/her in a bad mood!). There maybe even still be a candi

3、date in the room and neither the examiner nor the candidate will thank you for disturbing the interview. For the same reason, do not knock on the door or talk to other candidates outside the room. You wouldnt like your speaking test to be interrupted, would you?What to take with youTake your ID card

4、 with you, but do not take your mobile phone (or any electronic device) or paper or pens/pencils into the examination room. Many candidates have tried to cheat in the IELTS Speaking Module, so examiners tend to react badly if you even appear to be cheating. Test centres have special areas where cand

5、idates can leave their personal belongings, but these may not be very secure. If you are worried about someone stealing your mobile phone while you are taking the test, dont even take it with you on the test day.Beginning and ending the interviewAt the beginning, simply greet the examiner with “Hell

6、o” or “Good afternoon”. The examiner will guide you through the test. At the end simply say “Thank you. Good-bye.” Then leave the room. In particular, avoid poetic phrases such as “It has been a great pleasure and honour to have such a wonderful and lovely discussion with you.” The examiner is just

7、doing a job. Using such phrases indicates that you cannot use English appropriately!Giving your name and your ID cardWhen the examiner asks your name at the beginning of the test, dont begin a speech about what your name means or why you were given your name. You can give your “English” name, but on

8、ly do so after you have given your full Chinese name. Many candidates say that their “English” name is something like “Pierre” or “Dark”. “Pierre” is a French name and “Dark” is used as an adjective far more often than it is as a name. Say something like “My name is Du Tailei, but you can call me Ja

9、son.”Some examiners dont like it if you give them your ID card before they ask for it. Others dont mind. Play it safe and wait until you are asked for it. Make sure that your ID card is the same one you used to register for the test, or you may not be allowed to take the test.Part 1Part 1 timingIn p

10、art 1, the examiner will ask you about 3 topics for a total of 4 5 minutes. That means an average of 90 seconds per topic. The examiner will try to ask you 3 4 questions per topic, so your average answer should be 20 30 seconds long. Of course, you will probably give 1 2 longer answers and 1 2 short

11、er ones, which is fine. Just make sure that your average answer is 20 30 seconds long. If the examiner feels that your answer is too long, he / she may stop you. This is not a problem unless you have been repeating yourself or not answering the question.First topicThe first topic is always one of th

12、e following five:a)Your workb)Your studiesc)Your hometownd)Where you live nowe)Your homeBe sure to create a good expression by answering these questions particularly well. If you cannot answer these questions well, you are telling the examiner that you are unprepared for the test.If the examiner wan

13、ts to ask about your work or studies, the first question will be “Do you work or are you a student?” You can just give a simple answer and then the examiner will continue.In English, your hometown is where you grew up where you spent most of your childhood.Your home is the house, flat or dorm you li

14、ve in.Long answersDo not spend too much time answering one question or answering questions on one topic from the 3 the examiner will ask you about in part 1. This indicates to the examiner that you have prepared very well for one question or topic which could appear in the test and may not want to r

15、isk being asked a question on another topic. Even an average student is expected to be able to talk about several different topics.Long answers are not always good answers. If you think you have answered a question, when in fact you have not, you have wasted time. If you give a long answer, but much

16、 of what you say is repetition, you will have wasted time.Part 2Part 2 preparationFirst, the examiner reads the instructions and hands the student a cue card. The cue card has the instructions for part 2 at the top. The examiner will read these instructions, so you hear them and see them. This greatly reduces the chances of a misunderstanding.In the middle of the cue card, there is the main question along with 4
