GenderInequalityreferstotheobviousorhiddendisparitiesamongindividualsbasedontheperformanceofgender.ThisprobleminsimpletermisknownasGenderBiaswhichinsimpletermsmeansthegenderstratificationormakingdifferencebetweenagirlandaboyi.e.amaleorafemale.InmakingbiasnessamongthegenderIndiaranks10thoutof128countiesallovertheworldwhichisshamefulforus.Butthisproblemisincreasingalthoughgovernmenthasbannedthepre-natalsexexamination.InIndia(intheoldertimes)thisproblemismainlyseenintheruralareasbecausemanyruralpeoplethinkthatthegirlchildisburdenonthem.Butnowthisisalsobeingseenintheurbanareasi.e.inoffices,institutions,schoolsandinsociety.Theafflictedworldinwhichweliveischaracterizedbydeeplyunequalsharingoftheburdenofadversitiesbetweenwomenandmen.GenderInequalityexistsinmostpartoftheworld,fromJapantoMorocco,orfromUzbekistantoUnitedStatesofAmerica.

However,inequalitybetweenmenandwomencantakeverymanydifferentforms.Indeed,genderinequalityisnotonehomogeneousphenomenon,butacollectionofdisparateandinterlinkedproblem.Thisissueofgenderinequalityisonewhichhasbeenpubliclyreverberatingthroughsocietyfordecades.Theproblemofinequalityinemploymentbeingoneofthemostpressingissuestoday.Inordertoexaminethissituationonemusttrytogettotherootoftheproblemandmustunderstandthesociologicalfactorsthatcausewomentohaveamuchmoredifficulttimegettingthesamebenefits,wages,andjobopportunitiesastheirmalecounterparts.Thesocietyinwhichwelivehasbeenshapedhistoricallybymales.

However,inmanypartsoftheworld,womenreceivelessattentionandhealthcarethanmendo,andparticularlygirlsoftenreceiveverymuchlesssupportthanboys.Asaresultofthisgenderbias,hemortalityratesoffemalesoftenexceedthoseofmalesinthesecountries.Theconceptofmissingwomenwasdevisedtogivesomeideaoftheenormityofthephenomenonofwomen’sadversityinmortalitybyfocusingonthewomenwhoaresimplynotthere,duetounusuallyhighmortalitycomparedwithmalemortalityrates.Insomeregionsintheworld,inequalitybetweenwomenandmendirectlyinvolvesmattersoflifeanddeath,andtakesthebrutalformofunusuallyhighmortalityratesofwomenandaconsequentpreponderanceofmeninthetotalpopulation,asopposestothepreponderanceofwomenfoundinsocietieswithlittleornogenderbiasinhealthcareandnutrition.MortalityinequalityhasbeenobservedextensivelyinNorthAfricaandinAsia,includingChinaandSouthAsia.
