   JimmyDoolittlewasbomonDecember,14th,18%,inthewesternstateofCalifornia.HisfamilysoonmovedtoNome,Alaska.Jimmywasasmallboy.Henevergrewtobeverybig.Yetlargerboysmadeamistakeiftheythoughtbeingsmallalsomeantbeingweak.Jimmywouldfightifsomeonetriedtohurthim.Andhealmostneverlost.

   Asayoungmanhebecameaboxingchampion.WhentheUnitedStatesenteredWorldWarOne,youngJimmyDoolittlejoinedthearmy.Healsoaskedtobetrainedasapilot.OnMarch18th,1918,Jimmypassedthetestsandgraduatedfromflightschool.HehadhopedtogotoFranceandfightinthewar.Thearmy,however,hadhimtrainotherpilots.Whenthewarended,Jimmychosetostayinthearmy.Hethoughtthiswouldgivehimachancetocombinehisflyingskillsandhisinterestinengineering.

   FormostoftheyearsbetweenWorldWarOneandWorldWarTwo,JimmyDoolittlewasinvolvedinthegrowthoftheairplaneindustry.Hehelpedtestnewairplanes.Heflewlongerandlongerdistances.Healsoenteredtheworld-famousairracesofthetime.
