Theoreticallyspeaking,interculturalcommunicationisabroadconceptwhichhasbroadapplication:

itmayrefertocommunicationbetweendifferentraces，nationsorcountriesandbetweendifferentpoliticalandeconomicsystems；itmayrefertocommunicationbetweendifferentgenders，agegroups，occupations，socialclassesoreducationallevels；itmayalsorefertocommunicationbetweendifferentregionsofonecountry。

Inthemeantime,theinterculturalcommunicationhavethreeforms：

interracialcommunication，interethniccommunicationandinterculturalcommunication.

Theworldwideinterestininterculturalcommunicationgrowsoutoftremendouschangesintechnology，economy,immigrationpatternandtheemergenceofmulticulturalism。

Theadvancednewtechnologyandtheincreaseofculturalmigration,alsotheeconomicglobalizationandthegrowthofthewordpopulationarethemainreasonsforincreasinginterculturalcommunication。

Withtheglobalizationoftheworldeconomyandwideuseoftheinternetwhichistearingdownnationalboundaries，interculturalcommunicationhasbecomepartofourdailylife。

Asaresult，understandothercultureisindispensibleandneedforinterculturalknowledgeandskillsthatleadtointerculturalcommunicationcompetencebecomeessentialinoursociety。

Theimportanceofstudyinginterculturalcommunicationcannotbeoverstated。

Firstofall,wecanincreaseourculturalawarenessbystudyinginterculturalcommunication.Becausesuchawarenessisthefirststeptointerculturalcommunicationcompetence.Simply，interculturalawarenesscanbeviewedasacognitiveprocessofunderstandingother’svalues,attitudes，beliefsandoutlooks。

Second，Itcanreducecommunicationbarriersandfacilitateadaptiontoglobalanddomesticworkplacediversitybystudyinginterculturalcommunication。

Differentcultureshavedifferentcommunicationstyles,soitisnotenoughtohaveagoodcommunicationonlyknowingthegrammarandvocabularyofalanguage。

Therefore，whencommunicatingwithothersfromothercultures，wemustneedanunderstandingofeachother’scultureaswellasalanguageincommon。

Understandingtheseculturalbackgroundsanddifferencesisveryessentialifwearehaveeffectiveinterculturalcommunicationbetweencolleaguesfromdifferentculturalbackgrounds，andifwewanttoensurethatateamisaworkingharmoniously.

Third,wecanhelptoreducethecommunicativeconflictsbystudyinginterculturalcommunication.Conflictisinevitableinallsocialandpersonalrelationships。

Itcanconnotesastateoflackofagreementorcollisionbetweentwoforcesorsystems.Thisstatecanbeexpressedeitheropenlyorsubtly.Weneedtolearntobetolerantofexternaldifferencessothatwedonotletthesedifferencesimpedecommunication.Harmoniousrelationshipsarenecessaryinallaspectsofhumaneffortifpeoplearetogetalongwithanotherandaccomplishtherequirementoflifeandsociety。

Finally，interculturalcommunicationisanimportantmeanofexpressingyourselfbecauseitexistsdifferentwaysofexpressionandsodifferentkindofcommunicationdependingonthecultureyoubelongto.Thewayofcommunicatingwillnotbethesameasothercountriesanditisimportanttoknowsomevaluesofotherculturesandsoofotherwaysofcommunicatingfor,firstofall,avoidingsomemisunderstandingsandthenknowingbettersomeaspectsofdifferentcultures.
