SPRIK)isacross-disciplinaryandcross-institutionalresearchprojectfocusingoncorpus-basedcontrastivelanguagestudies(Norwegian,English,
French,German),especiallyinformationstructureatdifferentlevels.TheSPRIKprojecthastheover-archingstrategicaimofenhancinglinguisticresearchinNorwaywithincontrastivelinguistics,stylistics,andsemantics/pragmatics,aswellaslinguisticallyorientedtranslationstudies.
CentraltotheprojectisresearchontheOsloMultilingualCorpus(OMC).Suchparallellcorporarepresentaninvaluablesourceofinsightintotheinterplayofvariousfactorsthatdetermineinformationstructureinalanguagewhilealsosheddinglightonthecross-linguisticvariationinthestructuringofsentencesandtext.Throughcontrastivestudiesofauthenticlanguageincontext,theprojectaimstoprovidenewinsights,methodologicalrenewalandempiricallybasedtheorydevelopment.Insightsgainedfromtheresearchprojectwillalsoberelevanttoappliedfieldssuchastranslationandforeignlanguageteaching.
