Fossey’saimsweretostudygorillaecologyandsocialorganization.Shefoundthatinordertoachievethis,sheneededtorecognizeindividualgorillas,whichrequiredthatthegorillasgetusedtoherpresence（出现）.Bycopyinggorillas’behaviourandsounds,Fosseybegantogaintheirtrust,andin1970anadultmalegorillashehadnamed“Peanuts”reachedouttotouchherhand.

CloseobservationsoverthousandsofhoursenabledFosseytogainthegorillas’trustandbringforthnewknowledgeabouttheirbehaviour.StoriesandphotographsofherworkwerepublishedinNationalGeographicMagazineandelsewhere.
