1Introduction
Theconstructionindustry,moresothananyotherindustry,issubjecttohighdegreesoffragmentation(SkibniewskiandNitithamyong,2004).Thislackofunityhasbeenhighlightedbymanyauthorsasafundamentalobstacletobeovercomeinordertoachievethesuccessfulimplementationofnewtechnologies(AnambahandRucker,2002;

Itisevidentthatotherindustrieshavebeenabletodiscovercompetitiveadvantagethroughtheabsorptionoftechnologiesenhancingtheirprocesses;
however,theextenttowhichtheconstructionindustryisabletodothis,oriswillingtodothis,appearstobesignificantlyreduced.Nevertheless,environmentalfactorsincludingtheeverincreasingglobalizationoftheindustryandthefierceeconomicclimate,combinedwithtechnologicalfactorssuchastheprogressionoftechnologyinfrastructuresandapplicationsoverthepastdecade,aswellasthegrowingculturaldependenceontechnologyineverydayactivities,hascalledforaneednow,moresothanever,tobeproactiveintheseekingofnewinitiativesinordertoremaincompetitive.
Therehasbeenatendencyinthepasttoblamethetechnologyitselfwhendesiredresultshavenotmaterialized.This,combinedwiththedifficultyofquantifyingtheimpactoftechnologywithintheconstructionindustryduetothedegreeoffragmentation,canbeattributedtoasloweruptakeinnewtechnologiesthaninotherindustries.However,thereisevidencethatthefutureofconstructionisonethatembracestechnologicaladvances,andthereforethetimehascomewhereastrategicadoptionoftechnologyisrequiredinordertoextractitsfullpotential.
Accordingly,thisstudyexploresthecurrentstrategiesofconstructionorganizationsinanattempttoidentifyineffectiveorunder-performingpractices,aswellasthedriversandbarrierstotechnologyimplementation.Thisisinordertodeveloprecommendationstotheindustrywhichachieveamovetowardsthesuccessfulstrategicimplementationoftechnologies.
