Background
ADoctoralTrainingProgramin Biology wasestablishedatFujianAgricultureandForestryUniversityunderthedirectionofanuniversity-widecommitteetotrainhighlyqualifiedpersonsforacademiccareersin biology.Ourprogramwasrevisedextensivelyinthe2013acquiringanewfocus,whichofprovidingafirmfoundationinbiochemistry, physiology,
bioinformatics, genetics, zoology,cytology, microbiology, bee science,andmolecularbiologyalongwithrigoroustraininginresearchmethodology.TheprogramprovidesPh.D.programforthosewhowanttocarryout Biology studies.

Expectforexcellentmasterswhostudyforadoctordegreeinadvance,studentswithoutmasterdegreeshouldtakealldegreecoursescorrespondingtotheenrolledmastermajor.Thosewithdifferentmajormasterdegreeshouldtakethedegreecoursescorrespondingtotheenrolledmastermajorwithcreditfrom6to8.Thesupplementarycoursesarenotincludedinthetotalcredits.
Practicaleducation
Academicactivities（5credits）
Academicactivitiesincludedoingandlisteningacademicreports.Academicreportswillkeepstudentsabreastofthelatestresearchdevelopments.Thereareseveralseminarseriesheldintheuniversity.Studentscanattendthoseseminarspertinenttotheirmajorandtheirresearchintereststhroughoutthecourseoftheprogram.Studentsarerequiredtomakenolessthantwoseminarpresentationsandgetatleast5creditsduringtheirstudyperiod.Attendinginternationalconferenceandgivingaspecialreportis5creditspertime.Givingreportinnationalacademicconferenceheldbythefirst-classassociationspecializedintheresearchareais2creditspertime,whileothernationalconferenceis0.5creditspertime.MakinganacademicreportinthecollegeorFAFUis0.5creditspertime.Attendingseminarbutnotgivingreportisadifferentmatter.Attendinginternationalconferenceis2creditspertime,nationalacademicconferenceheldbythefirst-classassociation0.5credits,othernationalconference0.1credit,conferencesorseminarsinFAFU0.1credit.ThemaximumcreditobtainedinthecollegeorFAFUis2.5.Afteracademicactivities,studentsshouldwriteanabstractabouttheactivitiesnolessthan250-500lettersandfillinanacademicactivitiesenrollmentwhichiseffectiveonlyaftersignedbysupervisor.Creditscanbeachievedonlyafterqualifiedexaminationandverification.Ifonehasnotreachedtherequirement,hewillberegardedasunfinishedandwillnotbepermittedtoundertakethesisdefense.
Practiceeducation（2credits）
Practiceeducationisanimportantcomponentofthegraduatestudenttrainingexperience,includingscientificresearchpractice、teachingpractice.Scientificresearchpracticeistoberesearchassistanttohelpsupervisortoapplyscientificresearchprojectandimplementtheproject,andsoon.Thecreditscanbeachievedonlyafterthesupervisorgivesthecertification.Teachingpracticeistolearnsometeachingskillunderguidanceofsupervisors,andtakepartinteachingactivitiesforthegraduateorundergraduatestudentsbyguidingtheexperimentsortakingateachinglesson.
Afterqualifiedassessments,thecandidatewillget2credits.Thecreditscanbeachievedonlyafterqualifiedexaminationandverificationandarenotincludedintototalstudycredits.Thosewhohavenotattendedthepracticeeducationwillnotbepermittedtoundertakethethesisdefense.
Comprehensivequalifyingexamandmid-termexamination
Afterallcoursescompleted,inpurposeofcheckingifthestudentsmasterthebasictheoryandin-depthspecializedknowledgeofthediscipline,comprehensivequalifyingexaminationsshouldbecarriedout,whichareimportantjudgmenttodetermineifstudentscanenterintothestageofthesis.Generally,theexaminationwillbearrangedatthethirdsemesterwhichischairedbyexaminationcommitteeconsistedof3to5professorandassociatedprofessormajoredinthisorrelateddiscipline.Mid-termexaminationiscarriedoutbasedoncomprehensiveexamination.Detaileddemandsareshowedin“FujianAgricultureandForestryUniversitygraduatestudentmid-termexaminationmethods”.
Scientificresearchanddissertation
Doingscientificresearchandwritingdegreedissertationareimportantstepsindoctoraltraining.Duringstudyperiod,doctoralgraduatesshouldmainlyfocusonscientificresearchandwritingdissertationswithnolessthantwoyears.
Supervisorsshouldorganizestudentstotakepartinhighlevelscientificresearchworkactively,andattendacademicactivitiesandinternationalacademicconferenceinthisorrelateddiscipline.Thescientificresearchanddissertationofdoctoralstudentsshouldbeinthefieldofbasicresearchorappliedresearch,orresearchinhighandnewtechnology.Researchtopicshouldemphasizeitsscientificsignificanceandapplicability,relatetoeconomicconstructionandsocialdevelopmentclosely,andcombinetonationalscientificresearchprojectsasfaraspossible.Doctoralstudentscanenhancetheirabilitiesduringresearchpractice,engageinscientificresearchworkindependentlyandearntheabilitiesoforganizingscientificactivities.
Openingreport
Undertheguidanceofsupervisor,studentsshouldunderstandtheirresearchdirection,collectdata,determinetheresearchsubject,carryoutresearchwork,andwritereview.Thetopicofdissertationshouldbeadvance,haveimportanttheoreticalsignificanceandapplicationvalue.Detaileddemandsofopeningreportsareshowedin“FujianAgricultureandForestryUniversityinterimprovisionsaboutgraduatestudentopeningreport”.
Mid-termreport
Whenenteringtheintermediatestageofresearch,studentsmustputforwardthereportsabouttheprogressoftheworkachievements,reflecttheexistingproblems,listentothecommentsandsuggestionsofsupervisorandguidancegroup,andimprovetheresearchwork,soastoensurethatresearchprojectcancompleteonschedule.

Thedissertationmustshowthatdoctoralstudentshavefirmandbroadbasictheory,systematic
