Unitopening:

Backgroundinformation

Charitywalksareapopularwaytoraisemoneyforcharity.Participantsareexpectedtogathersponsorswhopledgeeitherasetamountofmoneyoracertainamountperkilometerwalked.Afterthewalk,participantscollectthemoneyfromtheirsponsorsandsenditintothecharity.

Charitywalkscanrangefromafewkilometerstohundredsofkilometers.Thenumberofparticipantsvariestoo.Insomecases,asingleindividualwillundertakeanextremelylongwalk,suchasacrossacontinent,toraisemoneyandawarenessforacertaincause.

Step5.Dividetheclassintopairs.AskstudentstoreadAmyandDaniel’sconversationinPartB.ThenaskthemtotalkaboutthepeopleinPartAandhowtheirlivesmightbemadeeasier.LessablestudentscanuseAmyandDaniel’sconversationasamodelandreplacetheunderlinedwordswiththeirownideas.Moreablestudentscancreatetheirownconversations.
