A.EmotionalintelligenceasatheorywasfirstbroughttopublicattentionbythebookEmotionalIntelligence,WhyItcanMatterMoreThanIQbyDanielGoleman,butthetheoryitselfis,infact,attributedtotwoAmericans,JohnDMayerandPeterSalovey.WhatisemotionalintelligenceexactlyAccordingtoGoleman,EmotionalIntelligenceconsistsoffivekeyelements.

beingabletorecognizethatoneisinanemotionalstateandhavingtheabilitytoidentifywhichemotionisbeingexperienced,evenifitisnotaparticularlycomfortablefeelingtoadmitto,.jealouslyorenvy.

recognizingemotionsinotherpeople.Thismeans,ineffect,havingordeveloping“socialradar”,ielearningtoreadtheweathersystemsaroundindividualorgroupsofpeople.Obviously,leadingonfromthisistheabilitytohandlerelationships.Ifwecanrecognize,understandandthendealwithotherpeople’semotions,wecanfunctionbetterbothsociallyandprofessionally.Notbeingtangible,emotionsaredifficulttoanalyzeandquantify,compoundedbythefactthateachareainthelistabove,doesnotoperateinisolation.Eachofushasmisreadafriend’soracolleague’sbehaviortousandotherpeople.Theclassicexampleistheshyperson,categorizedbysomepeopleasarrogantanddistantandbyothersaslivelyandfriendlyandverypersonable.HowcantwodifferentgroupsmakeadefinitiveanalysisofsomeonethatissostrikinglycontradictoryAndyetthishappensonadailybasisinallourrelationships—eventothepointofmisreadingthebehaviorofthoseclosetous!

Intheworkscenario,thiscancostmoney.Andsoitmakeseconomicsenseforbusinesstobeawareofitanddevelopstrategiesforemployingpeopleanddealingwiththeiremployees.
