Introduction
ISO/IEC15693isoneofaseriesofInternationalStandardsdescribingtheparametersforidentificationcardsdefinedinISO7810andtheuseofsuchcardsforinternationalinterchange.
ThispartofISO/IEC15693describesthePhysicalcharacteristicsofvicinitycards.
ThisInternationalStandarddoesnotprecludetheincorporationofotherstandardtechnologiesonthecard,suchasthosereferencedintheinformativeannex.
ContactlessCardStandardscoveravarietyoftypesasembodiedinISO/IEC10536(Closecoupledcards),ISO/IEC14443(Proximitycards),ISO/IEC15693(Vicinitycards).Theseareintendedforoperationwhenverynear,nearbyandatalongerdistancefromassociatedcouplingdevicesrespectively.

1Scope
ThispartofISO/IEC15693specifiesthephysicalcharacteristicsofcontactlessintegratedcircuit(s)cards,-VicinityCards,(VICC).ItappliestoidentificationcardsoftheID-1cardtypeoperatinginvicinityofacouplingdevice.
ThispartofISO/IEC15693shallbeusedinconjunctionlaterpartsofISO/IEC15693,whichareindevelopment.
Othertypesofcontactlessintegratedcircuit(s)cards,formatsorinterfaces,whichoperateatvariousdistances,weredeveloped(ISO/IEC10536and14443)andmaybedevelopedinthefuture,whichmayrequireotherinternationalstandardstobewritten.

Thefollowingstandardscontainprovisionswhich,throughreferenceinthistext,constituteprovisionsofthispartofISO/IEC15693.Atthetimeofpublication,theeditionsindicatedwerevalid.Allstandardsaresubjecttorevision,andpartiestoagreementsbasedonthispartofISO/IEC14443areencouragedtoinvestigatethepossibilityofapplyingthemostrecenteditionsofthestandardslistedbelow.MembersofIECandISOmaintainregistersofcurrentlyvalidInternationalStandards.

AnID-1cardtype(asspecifiedinISO/IEC7810)intowhichintegratedcircuit(s)havebeenplacedandinwhichcommunicationtosuchintegratedcircuit(s)isdoneincontactlessmanner.

VicinityCards;VicinityIntegratedCircuit(s)Cards(VICC):
AnID-1cardtypeintowhichintegratedcircuit(s)andacouplingmeanshavebeenplacedandinwhichcommunicationtosuchintegratedcircuit(s)isdonebyinductivecouplinginthevicinityofacouplingdevice.

4.1General
TheVICCshallhavephysicalcharacteristicsaccordingtotherequirementsspecifiedforID-1cardsin
ISO/IEC7810.
4.2Dimensions
ThenominaldimensionsoftheVICCshallbeasspecifiedinISO/IEC7810forID-1cards.
4.3Additionalcharacteristics
4.3.1Ultra-violetlight
ThispartoftheISO/IEC15693excludesrequirementsforprotectionofVICCagainsttheeffectsofultra-violetlightlevelsgreaterthanthoseinordinarydaylightatsealevel.Wheregreaterprotectionisneededitshallbetheresponsibilityofthecardmanufacturertoprovideitandtostatethetolerablelevelofultra-violetlight.
4.3.2X-rays
TheVICCshallcontinuetooperateasintendedafterexposureofeitherVICCfacetomedium-energyX-radiation,withenergy100keV,ofacumulativedoseof0.1Gyperyear.
NoteThiscorrespondstoapproximatelytwicethemaximumannualrecommendeddosetowhichhumansmaybeexposed.
4.3.3Dynamicbendingstress
TheVICCshallcontinuetooperateasintendedaftertestinginaccordancewiththetestmethodsdescribedinISO/IEC10373wherethemaximumdeflectionabouttheshortandlongcardsaxisarehwA=20mmandhwB=10mm
