onresidentialfires,toxicgasleaktoimplementautomaticalarm;anti-theftalarmsystemshouldbeinstalledsuchasinfraredormicrowavevarioustypesofalarmdetector;systemshouldbeintegratedwiththecomputersecuritymanagementsystemnetwork;computersystemburglaralarmsystemcanbecentrallymanagedandcontrolled.However,aswirelesstechnologyimmature,operatingexpensesofhighermalpractice,intelligenthomecontrollerandtheexternalnetworkofwirelesscommunicationstechnologyasleadingtoalowdegreeofmarketacceptanceoftheimportantfactors,thecharacteristicsofGPRSsystemcanbeagoodsolutiontotheproblem.GPRSnetworkcommunicationbusinessCommunicationCompanylaunchedadatacommunicationservice,theGPRSnetworkcoveragearea,unlimitedtransmissiondistance,communicationcostisrelativelylowtransferratefaster.ThisarticlerelatedtointelligentsystemsandGPRStechnologyfamilybackground,analysisofitsbasiccharacteristicsandtheirbasicfunctionstobeachieved,andonthisbasiswasproposedtheoverallintelligentcontrolsystemsolutionsbasedonGPRSwirelesscommunicationservice.Atlast,thecoreGPRSchipsystemsoftwareandhardwarerealization.

OverallsystemarchitectureThepopularityofnetworkapplicationsandtheproductionofavarietyofinformationappliancesaremadewithinthefamilyvisitontheInternet,nolongerlimitedtoasinglePC,eachfamilywillbefacedwithhowtotransferInternetdatawithinthefamilyandhowthevariousappliancesproblemsconnecting,basedonthis,intelligenthomenetworkscomeintobeing.Intelligenthomenetworkisthebasicunitofinformationsociety.Thefutureofthefamily,allkindsofapplianceswillformahomeLANandInternetaccessthroughthesmarthomecontroller.Intelligenthomenetworkmarketpotentialisconsiderable,severallargemanufacturersIntel,IBM,MicrosoftandSonyarealreadyinvolvedinthem.

Intelligenthomenetworkthatisinahomeinacommunicationsnetwork,thevariousappliancesconnectedtogether,toachievealltheintelligenthomenetworkappliancesforremoteaccessandcontrol,andanyrequestforinformationexchange,suchasmusic,televisionordata.Intelligenthomenetworkarchitecture,includingwithinthefamilynetworksystem,intelligenthomecontrollerandtheintelligenthomenetworkandexternalInternetnetworksofdatacommunications.Amongthem,thesmarthomesmarthomenetworkcontrollerisanintegralpartofthecoretoplaythemanagement,controlandcommunicationsrolewiththeexternalnetwork.Itisthemanagementplatformandhomethroughthefamilylifeofthecombinationofthevarioussubsystemsofasystemistoconnectthefamilyintelligencenetworkinsideandoutsidethephysicalinterfaces,completewithexternalcommunicationnetworkswithinthefamily,thedataexchangebetweenfunctions,butalsoforfamiliesequipmentmanagementandcontrol.

Smarthomecontrollerontheonehandtheneedforcablingtoprovidecommunicationinterfacewithinthefamily,tocollectinformationonhouseholdequipment,andprocessing,automaticcontrolandregulation;othersmarthomecontrollerasahomegateway,toprovideforexternalnetworkinterfaces,connectivitywithinthefamilynetworkandexternalInternetnetworks,souserscanaccessthehomenetwork,internalnetwork,toachievemonitoringandcontrol.Inaddition,smarthomecontrollershouldalsobeequippedwithautomaticalarmandotherfunctions,thatis,whenfound,suchasalarmsignal:

RemoteControl:

RemoteuserscansendtextmessagesorviatheInternetonthefamilysystemtocontrolandquery.

Automaticalarm:

whenthecontrollerdetectshightemperature,suchasillegalintrusionoralarmsignal,triggeringindooralarmintimeandsendalertmessagesbymeansofpromptlynotifytheuser.

Temperaturecheck:

theusercanchecktheroomtemperaturebythecontroller.Securitydoorpasswordsettings:

localorremoteusercanmodifythepasswordsecuritydoor;enterthecorrectpasswordatthedoorbeforetheycanopenthedoor.

InfraredApplianceControl:

receivingusercommandsviainfraredtransmittercontrolTV,airconditioningandotherinfraredcontrolledappliances.

Otherlampsandsoon-offcontrol:

receivingusercommandscontroltheamountoflightingandotherswitchingequipment.

SmarthomecontrollerthroughGPRSmodule,toachievethefamilysystemandtheexternalnetworkcommunicationasacentralpartofthesmarthomesystemtosolvethebottleneckbeforethekeytechnology.GPRS(GeneralPacketRadioService)isshort,theexistingGSMsystemistoaddanewGGSN(GatewaySupportNode)andSGSN(ServiceSupportNode)nodedevelopedanewpacketdatabearerservices.GPRSwiththeexistingGSMsystemthemostfundamentaldifferenceis,GPRSisapacketswitchingsystem,particularlysuitableforintermittent,suddenorfrequent,smallamountsofdatatransfer,butalsototheoccasionallargedatatransfers.ThemainadvantageofGPRSnetworktransmissionsare:

alwaysonline,accordingtotrafficaccounting,quicklogon,high-speedtransmission,withinarestrictedrange(transmissiondistance,terrain,weather,etc.),anddatatransmissionreliability.

TheboomingInternethasbroadenedthetraditionalconceptofsmartconsumerappliances.Originally,smartconsumerappliancesarejuststand-alonedevicesthathavethecontrolprogramrunningbythemselves.Duetohardwarelimitations,theseappliancescanonlyimplementsomesimplecontrolalgorithmsthatcanatmostachievelocaloptimalcontroleffects.Nowadaysmoreandmoreconsumerapplianceshavethecapabilitiestobenterconnectedbymanykindsofcommunicationmediasuchasphonelines,utilitylines,andwirelesstechnology,andevencanbeconnectedtotheInternet.Thistrendofdevelopmentbringspromisingprospectstofuturehomeappliancesthatwillnotonlyletusersmaintain,monitor,andcontrolappliancesmoreeasilyandconveniently,butalsowillmakethelong-timeexpectedremote-controlledhomeappliancesfeasible.Aremote-controllablehomeappliancecanbeconsideredasaslavedevicetotheremotecontrollerthatresidesinfarendandhaspowerfulmainframerunningadvancedcontrolalgorithms.Theappliancerunsitsowncontrolprogramwhileatthesametimecanreceivecontrolcommands,configurationparametersorevenupdatedcontrolalgorithmsfromtheremotecontrollertoachieveoptimalcontroleffectinthegloballevel.Inordertomeetthischallenge,anewarchitectureforsmartconsumerappliancessystemsneedstobeproposed.

Ontheotherhand,Hardwareimplementationofcontrolsystemswillbeoneofimportantissuesinthedevelopmentofsmartconsumerelectronics.Forsimpleapplications,suchassmarttoys,microwaves,andwashingmachines,simplecontrolalgorithmscanbeusedandimplementedonasinglechipthatmaycostverylittle.However,formorecomplexproblems,suchassmartheating,ventilation,andairconditioning(WAC)forindividualhousesorofficebuildings,advancedcontrolmethodsmustbeutilizedandimplementedwithsophisticatedhardwarethatwouldcostsignificantlymorethantheconventionalcontrollers.Forexample,anintelligentPLC(programmablelogiccontroller)forenergyefficientandwavingtemperaturecontrolmaycostseveraltimesmorethanahouseholdairconditioningunit.Thismightbejustifiedforsomeindustrialapplicationsbutobviouslynotacceptableforaverageindividualcustomers.Therefore,tomakesmartconsumerelectronicsmarketableforthistypeofapplications,innovativeapproachforimplementationmustbeestablishedtoreducethecosttoalevelacceptabletoaveragecustomers.Inthefollowingsections,thearchitectureofintelligentcontrolsystemsforconsumerappliancesviaInternetisbrieflypresented,andthenanetwork-basedmemos-fuzzyimplementationisdescribed.
