1.Overview

YoucanapplyforaTier4（General）studentvisatostudyintheUKifyou’re16oroverandyou:

∙havebeenofferedaplaceonacourse

∙canspeak,read,writeandunderstandEnglish

∙haveenoughmoneytosupportyourselfandandpayforyourcourse-theamountwillvarydependingonyourcircumstances

∙arefromacountrythat’snotintheEuropeanEconomicArea（EEA）orSwitzerland

∙meettheothereligibilityrequirements

Whentoapply

Youcanapplyfrom3monthsbeforethestartofyourcourse.

You’llusuallygetadecisiononyourvisawithin3weeks.Youcancheckvisaprocessingtimesforyourcountry.

Fees

Itcosts£322toapplyforthisvisafromoutsidetheUK.

Youmustpay£322perpersonforanydependants.

You’llalsohavetopaythehealthcaresurchargeaspartofyourapplication.Checkhowmuchyou’llhavetopaybeforeyouapply.

Howlongyoucanstay

YoucanarriveintheUKbeforeyourcoursestarts:

2.Eligibility

Youmusthave:

∙anunconditionalofferofaplaceonacoursewithalicensedTier4sponsor

∙enoughmoneytosupportyourselfandpayforyourcourse-theamountwillvarydependingonyourcircumstances

Youcandoacoursethat’soneofthefollowing:

∙full-timeleadingtoaqualificationthat’satleastlevel6ontheNationalQualificationsFramework（NQF）

∙anoverseascourseofdegreelevelstudythat’sequaltoaUKhighereducationcourseandisbeingrunbyanoverseashighereducationinstitution

∙afull-timecoursewithatleast15hoursperweekoforganiseddaytimestudyleadingtoaqualificationbelowdegreelevelbutatleastNQFlevel3

∙arecognisedfoundationprogrammeasapostgraduatedoctorordentist

Postgraduatedoctorsanddentists

Youcanapplyforthisvisaifyou’responsoredtodoarecognisedfoundationprogrammeandyou’ve:

∙finishedarecognisedUKdegreeinmedicineordentistry

∙receivedthatdegreefromaregisteredTier4sponsor

∙spentyourfinalyearandatleast1otheryearofstudiesleadingtothatdegreeintheUK

Confirmationofacceptanceforstudies

Youreducationproviderwillsendyouareferencenumbercalledaconfirmationofacceptanceforstudies（CAS）oncethey’veofferedyouaplaceonacourse.You’llneedtoenterthisonyourvisaapplication.

Youmustapplyforyourvisanomorethan6monthsafteryoureceivetheCAS.

YoucanonlygetaCASforanewcourseifyou’vestudiedintheUKbeforeandyou’re:

∙re-sittingexamsorrepeatingmodules

5.Apply

Youshouldreadthefullguidancebeforeyouapply.

Youmustcompleteyourvisaapplicationby5Julyifyou’vealreadypaidtheimmigrationhealthsurchargeoryoumighthavetopayittwice.You’llgetarefundforyourfirstpayment.

You’llneedtohaveyourfingerprintsandphotographtakenatavisaapplicationcentre（togetabiometricresidencepermit）aspartofyourapplication.

You’llhavetocollectyourbiometricresidencepermitwithin10daysofwhenyousaidyou’darriveintheUK（evenifyouactuallyarriveatalaterdate）.

Youmaybeabletogetyourvisafasterorotherservicesdependingonwhatcountryyou’rein-checkwithyourvisaapplicationcentre.

6.Extendyourvisa

Youshouldapplybeforeyourcurrentvisaexpires.

Youmaybeabletoapplytoextendyourstaytocontinueyourcourseorstudyanewcourse.
