DiscreteMathematicsInternationalJournalofManMachineStudies

Thedynamicalbehaviourofstructurescanbemodelledandsimulatedsatisfactorilyinthelinearandslightlynonlinearrangesusingfiniteelementsandotheranalyticalmodelsinconjunctionwithmoderncomputers.However,thehighlynonlinearbehaviourofstructuresremainstobestudiedfurther.Thenonlinearresponseofcomplexstructureswhichhavebeendamagedbystrong-motionearthquakesliesinthisarea.Itisextremelydifficulttocollectsufficientfieldorlaboratorydatafortheconstructionofaccuratemathematicalmodelsofsuchstructuresforpracticalapplications.Thisispartlyduetothefactthatthefailurebehaviourofagivenstructureishighlyload-historydependent.Intheabsenceofreliableanalyticaltools,systemidentificationtechniquesmayoccasionallybeappliedtoverifyand/orupdatethemathematicalmodelofastructure.Thedevelopmentofmathematicalmodelsusefulforanalysisofstructuralbehaviourtoearthquakeexcitationisanareatoolargetobecoveredindetailbyasinglereview.Inthispaper,anattemptismadetocriticallyreviewavailablemathematicalmodelsintherandomearthquakeresponseanalysisofstructures.Byrandom,werefertotheexcitation,tothepropertiesofthestructureitself,ortoboth.Weareespeciallyinterestedinthosemodelsdealingwithslightlytohighlynonlinearbehaviour.Somerecentworkwhichutilizestheseanalyticaltechniquesishighlighted.Alsoincludedisareviewofsystemidentificationtechniquesasappliedtostructures.Theconceptofdamageaccumulationismentioned,andadamageindexisdiscussedwhichmaybeusedinconjunctionwithananalyticalmodel.Aselectivebibliographyisalsogivenforamorecompleteintroductionintotheareasdiscussedherein.

HowB2BfirmsinthePeople'sRepublicofChina[PRC]view,valueandmanagetheircorporatereputationhasreceivedlittleresearchattention.Drawingonmultiplecasestudies,ourfindingsconfirmthatfirmsareutilizingcertainWesternconceptualizationsofcorporatereputation,includingtheleveragingofintangibleformsofcorporatereputation.However,manyofthefirmswerealsousingthehithertounderemphasizedelementsoffirm–governmentrelationshipsandgovernmentregulatorypoliciestocreatepositiveassessmentsofafirm'sreputationamongkeystakeholders.NotwithstandingourfindingsthatcorporatereputationisvaluedasameansofgainingcompetitiveadvantageanddispellingperceptionsthatChineseproducts/servicesarelow-costandlow-quality,concernremainsthatbuildingreputationcapitalamongstakeholdersmayresultinalossofpricecompetitiveness.Finally,unliketheframeworkproposedbyBarnett,Jermier,andLafferty（2006）,ourresultssuggestthatB2BfirmsinChinadonotimposeclearboundariesbetweenreputationand‘corporatereputationcapital’.Nordoesthereappeartobeanemphasisondisaggregatingtheconstructsofidentifyandimagefromthatofreputation.
