Abstract:
Thefeatureofclassgamesistotapteachingintolearningtoproducearelaxingandhappylearningatmosphere,tostimulatethestudyinterestsofstudentsandtohelpthemimprovetheirconfidence.Itisalsoagoodaidingmethodofimprovingtherelationshipbetweentheteacherandstudents.Inrecentyears,thegame-teachinginprimaryEnglishclasseshasbeenusedmoreandmorewidely.Especiallysincetheimplementationofthenewcoursesreform,thedevelopmentofstudents’learninginteresthasbeenpaidmoreandmoreattentiontoandtheteachingthoughtofstudent-centeredhastappedintoteachers’mind.However,withthescopeofgame-teachingwideninganditsfrequencyincreasing,therehaveappearedsomerelativeproblems.Therefore,thispaperismainlybasedontheanalysisandconclusionofthoseproblemsofgame-teachinginEnglishclassesofprimarystudentsandthusputsforwardsomeusefulmeasures.IthasdiscussedEnglishteachingandbackgroundsandanalyzedtheadvantagesofgameteachingandthesignificanceofthestudy.ThispaperaimstoillustratethecommonproblemsthatexistinprimaryEnglishclassandthusfiguresoutsystematicalsolutions.

1.1OverviewofEnglishTeaching
InthefieldofSecondLanguageAcquisition(SLA),ithasbeenwidelyrealizedthatchildrenlearnlanguagemoreeasilyandlearnbetterthanadults,whichmeanthatthereisanimportantperiodforchildrentolearnsecondlanguage.That’stosay,agedoesplayanimportantroleinsuccessfulsecondlanguagelearning.TheproblemofEnglishteachinghasgotmoreandmoreattentioninrecentyears.AsEnglishbecomemoreandmoreregardedasaninternationallanguage,it’sincreasinglyincludedinprimarycurricula.OurgovernmenthasemphasizedtheimportanceforprimaryschooltogiveseveralhoursofEnglishteachingeveryweekiftheconditionsarepermitted.MinistryofeducationhascarriedoutthenewEnglishcurriculastandard,whichstateEnglishshouldbeacourseinallprimaryschool.AlthoughEnglishbecomeamajorcourseinprimaryschool,therearesomeproblemsinEnglishteaching.Weallknow,gameteachingisoneofthebestmeasuresintheprimaryEnglishclass,butmanyteachersarenotgoodatusingEnglishgameswhentheyareteaching.Withthescopeofgame-teachingwideninganditsfrequencyincreasing,thereappearedsomerelativeproblems.SothispaperisaimedtofindsomecommonproblemsandfigureoutsomesolutionsofgameteachingintheprimaryEnglishclass.
1.2Backgrounds
Inmoderntimes,informationfilledwithworldwiththeprocessofglobalization,itrequiresahigherlevelofEnglishforthewholecountrytoadapttothedevelopmentofthesociety.Englishbecomesanimportanttoolforpeopletocommunicatewithforeigners.Englishhasbeensetasacompulsorycourseinschools,whichtherearefourhourseveryweekandstudents’Englishscoreshaverelationwiththeirfuture.Undersuchcircumstances,ChinahasfiguredoutacurriculumreformaimingtoimprovethecurrentEnglishteaching.MuchattentionhasbeenpaidtochangethetraditionalandconventionalEnglishteachinginordertoadapttothemoderntimes.TheEnglishCurriculumStandardsdistributedbytheeducationministryofChinahassingledoutthegoalofEnglishcourseinprimaryschoolsduringthecompulsoryeducationonDecember25th,2002.Itaimstomotivateandcultivatestudents’interestandself-confidence,andhelpthemhavegoodlearninghabitanddeveloptheirself-taughtabilityinlearningEnglish,sothattheywillhavetheirownusefulstrategiestodealwiththeirstudies.Furthermore,studentsshouldlearnthebasiclanguageknowledge,gainprimarysenseoflanguage,masterthelanguageskillsandacquirethecapabilityofusingEnglishintheirdailylife.Itisessentialtodevelopthestudents’intelligenceandinterestinlearningEnglish.Inrecentyears,withthedevelopmentofquality-orientededucation,moreandmoreteachersandexpertspaymuchattentiontogameteachingmethodinprimaryclass.However,thesystemofEnglisheducationinourcountryisstillexam-oriented,whichfocusonknowledgeinput.Asaresult,itreducesthestudents’interestandlowerstheirexamscores.Accordingtothechildren’sPsychologicalcharacteristics,gameteachingcanarousechildren’sinterest.Ithasbeenfoundthatoneappropriatemethodtoencouragechildrenacquisitionlanguageisusinggames.Childrenhaveaneedtobemotivatedbytheteacherorthematerial,andtheyareeasiertobemotivated.ManyteachersthinkgameteachingisabetterwaytoarousetheinterestofthechildrenintheprimaryEnglishclass.JohnDeweyclaimedgameswereintegraltoschoolingsincetheyprovidedactiveandpositivelearningexperience.Sincetheimplementationofcurriculumreform,mostEnglishteachershaveusedgamesintheprocessofEnglishteachingintheprimaryclassroom.GameteachinghaschangedtheatmosphereofEnglishclassatsomeextent.What’smore,itimprovestheenthusiasmofthechildren.ButtherearestillsomeproblemsexistinEnglishclass.Forexample,thegamesarenotrelationtothecourse,andchildrenlearnnothingfromtheclass;somegamesarenotsuitableforchildren,andthechildrenarehardtotakepartinit.
1.3AdvantagesofGamesinEnglishTeaching
Inourcountry,childrenusuallythinkthattheteachersalwaysareabsolutelyright,andthetraditionalconceptneedgameteachingtochangethesituation;StudentsarescaredtospeakEnglish;Thereasonsarenotonlyincludeteachingmaterials,teachingmethods,andtheeducationsystem,butalsoincludetheresponsibilityofChinesetraditionalculture.Foralongtime,wheneducatechildren,peopleusuallyhavesuchconcept-----"obedient",thedisadvantagesofthiskindofidea,isindirectlykilltheenthusiasmofthestudentsdaretospeak.Gameisakindofactivitywithlesspressureanditscompetitionisnotverystrong,whichcanmotivatestudentstospeakfreely.IntheprocessofprimaryEnglishteaching,teachersshouldfocusonencouragingthestudentstospeakEnglish.China'seducationsystemmaylimittherightsofstudentsto"speak"atsomeextent,andthefundamentalreasonisChinesetraditionalculture.Basically,gameteachingwillplayanimportantroleinchangingthetraditionalclass.
Primarystudent'spsychologicalcharacteristicdecidedthattheyneedgamestolearnEnglish.Inprimaryschool,thestudentsrelyonteachersinemotional,andforthem,learningEnglishshouldbeakindofgameactivitiesthatneedagreatdealofenthusiasm,emotion.Becausemanystudentshavesomepersonalityfactors,whichtheymaybeshyintheearlystagesofthestudy,sooneoftheteacher'stasksistocreateaharmoniousatmosphereasmuchaspossible.GameteachingisabetterwayforstudentstolearnEnglish,throughsomeinterestinggamesinclass,especiallythestudentsarecooperatetocompletethegames,whichcaneliminatestudents'psychologicalanxietyanddaretospeakinpublic.AccordingtoElementarystudent'spsychologicalcharacteristic(ortheageof6~12particularityofcognition),theyhaven'tdetermineself-centereddemandasthegoalinlearning.TheyhavenodemandforforeignlanguageintheprocessoflearningEnglish,northeinternalmotivationoflearning,solanguageteachershouldbeabletohelpthemtoformtheinternalmotivation.Andgameteachingisagoodwaytoinspirestudents'needsandinterestsoflearningEnglish.Thecharacteristicofthegameisfun,competitive,whichcanmaketheclassroomatmospheremoreactiveandstimulatetheimaginationofthestudents.Entertainingcanbeeffectivelycombinedwithprimaryschoolstudents’psychologicalcharacteristics,itcanhelpthestudentsfindpleasurethroughgamesandincreasethechancesofusinglanguage.
Elementarystudent'sphysiologicalcharacteristicsdeterminetheformofclassmustbediversified,andgameteachingisthemosteffectivewayforelementarystudentstolearnEnglish.ItisdifficulttomakethestudentsconcentrateonlearningEnglishinthewholeclass.Danielthinks,elementarystudentsjustconcentrateonsomethingfor5~10minutes.Therefore,classactivitydurationshouldbereasonable.Theregularclasstimeis40~45minutes,aneffectiveEnglishclass,notmerelyteachersshouldexplainlearningmaterial,butwithsomeinterestinggames.Designinggamereasonably,canmaketheclassroomteachingfullofvitality.Arranginggamescientifically,canmaketheEnglishteachingeffectively.Englishteachersshouldfullyconsiderthestudents'physiologicalcharact
