第一章：

寓言故事

1、城里老鼠和乡下老鼠

Oncethereweretwomice.Theywerefriends.Onemouselivedinthecountry;theothermouselivedinthecity.AftermanyyearstheCountrymousesawtheCitymouse;hesaid,"Docomeandseemeatmyhouseinthecountry."SotheCitymousewent.TheCitymousesaid,"Thisfoodisnotgood,andyourhouseisnotgood.Whydoyouliveinaholeinthefield?

Youshouldcomeandliveinthecity.Youwouldliveinanicehousemadeofstone.Youwouldhavenicefoodtoeat.Youmustcomeandseemeatmyhouseinthecity."

　　TheCountrymousewenttothehouseoftheCitymouse.Itwasaverygoodhouse.Nicefoodwassetreadyforthemtoeat.Butjustastheybegantoeattheyheardagreatnoise.TheCitymousecried,"Run!

Run!

Thecatiscoming!

"Theyranawayquicklyandhid.

　　Aftersometimetheycameout.Whentheycameout,theCountrymousesaid,"Idonotlikelivinginthecity.Ilikelivinginmyholeinthefield.Foritisnicertobepoorandhappy,thantoberichandafraid."

　　从前，有两只老鼠，它们是好朋友。

一只老鼠居住在乡村，另一只住在城里。

很多年以后，乡下老鼠碰到城里老鼠，它说：

“你一定要来我乡下的家看看。

”于是，城里老鼠就去了。

乡下老鼠领着它到了一块田地上它自己的家里。

它把所有最精美食物都找出来给城里老鼠。

城里老鼠说：

“这东西不好吃，你的家也不好，你为什么住在田野的地洞里呢？

你应该搬到城里去住，你能住上用石头造的漂亮房子，还会吃上美味佳肴，你应该到我城里的家看看。

”

　　乡下老鼠就到城里老鼠的家去。

房子十分漂亮，好吃的东西也为他们摆好了。

可是正当他们要开始吃的时候，听见很大的一阵响声，城里的老鼠叫喊起来：

“快跑！

快跑！

猫来了！

”他们飞快地跑开躲藏起来。

　　过了一会儿，他们出来了。

当他们出来时，乡下老鼠说：

“我不喜欢住在城里，我喜欢住在田野我的洞里。

因为这样虽然贫穷但是快乐自在，比起虽然富有却要过着提心吊胆的生活来说，要好些。

”

2、树和斧子

"thefirstconcessionhaslostall;ifwehasnotasacrificedourhumbleneighbor,wemighthaveyetstoodforagesourselves."

有一个樵夫来到森林里,要求树给他一跟斧柄,看来他的请求非常谦虚,立刻得到了树的首领的同意.他们决定由平凡而朴素的白杨树来提供所需要的东西.樵夫刚按好斧柄,就开始到处乱砍,森林里最高的树都砍倒了,树林现在察觉大势已去,就小声对衫树说：

"第一次的让步已失去了一切.如果我们不牺牲我们的小小的邻居,我们自己还可以活无数年呢."

这故事讽刺忘恩负义的人，也告诉我们对敌人的施舍就是对自己的残忍。

3、TheLionandtheMouse狮子与报恩的老鼠 

ALIONwasawakenedfromsleepbyaMouserunningoverhisface.Risingupangrily,hecaughthimandwasabouttokillhim,whentheMousepiteouslyentreated,saying:

"Ifyouwouldonlysparemylife,Iwouldbesuretorepayyourkindness."TheLionlaughedandlethimgo.IthappenedshortlyafterthisthattheLionwascaughtbysomehunters,whoboundhimbystrongropestotheground.TheMouse,recognizinghisroar,cameandgnawedtheropewithhisteethandsethimfree,exclaiming:

 "Youridiculedtheideaofmyeverbeingabletohelpyou,expectingtoreceivefrommeanyrepaymentofyourfavor;nowyouknowthatitispossibleforevenaMousetoconbenefitsonaLion." 

狮子睡着了，有只老鼠跳到了他身上。

狮子猛然站起来，把他抓住，准备吃掉。

老鼠请求饶命，并说如果保住性命，必将报恩，狮子轻蔑地笑了笑，便把他放走了。

不久，狮子真的被老鼠救了性命。

原来狮子被一个猎人抓获，并用绳索把他捆在一棵树上。

老鼠听到了他的哀嚎，走过去咬断绳索，放走了狮子，并说：

“你当时嘲笑我，不相信能得到我的报答，现在可清楚了，老鼠也能报恩。

”这故事说明：

时运交替变更，强者也会有需要弱者的时候。

4、一颗小苹果树

　　Youcanimaginethatmanandhiswholenightofscare.Everymomenttherewasdeath,hishandswerebecomingcold,hewaslosinghisgrip......andasthesuncameouthelookeddownandhelaughed.Therewasnoabyss.Justsixinchesdowntherewasarock.Hecouldhaverestedthewholenight,sleptwell---therockwasbigenough---butthewholenightwasanightmare.

　　Fearisonlysixinchesdeep.Nowitisuptoyouwhetheryouwanttogoonclingtothebranchandturnyourlifeintoanightmare,orwhetheryouwouldlovetoleavethebranchandstandonyourfeet.

　　Thereisnothingtofear.

　　一个人在赶夜路时，突然从岩石上跌了下去，吓得他赶紧抓住了岩石上的树枝，因为他知道这一带有个深谷，一不小心就会跌入上千英尺的深渊。

一晚上，他唯一能看到的就是深不见底的峡谷。

他大呼救命，但只听到了自己的回音---没有人能听到他呼救。

　　你可以想象一下他的处境和整晚的恐惧。

死神随时都可能降临。

他的手开始发凉，渐渐地抓不住了...当太阳升起的时候，他朝下看了看，笑了。

下面压根就没有什么深渊。

在他下方六英尺的地方有一块大石头。

岩石那么大，他本可以在那儿休息一个晚上，美美的睡上一觉，但昨晚他却在梦魇中度过。

　　恐惧只是六英尺的距离而已。

接下来，到了你做决定的时候了：

你是想要继续抓着树枝过梦魇一般的生活，还是更喜欢把手从树枝上松开，双脚着地？

　　真的没有什么好害怕的。

5、穷与富

Oneday,arichfathertookhislittlesononatriptothecountry.Hewantedtoshowhimthepovertyintheworld.Theyspentadayandanightatthefarmofaverypoorfamily.

Whentheygotbackfromtheirtrip,thefatheraskedhisson,“Howwasthetrip?

”

“Verygood,Dad!

”

“Didyouseehowthelivesofthepoorcanbe?

”thefatherasked.

“Yeah!

”

“Andwhatdidyoulearn?

”

Afterthinkingforamoment,thesonanswered,“Isawthatwehaveadogathome,andtheyhavefour.Wehaveapoolthatreachestothemiddleofthegarden,andtheyhaveacreekthathasnoend.Wehaveelectriclightsinthegarden,andtheyhavethestars.Ourpatioreachestothefrontyard,andtheyhaveawholehorizon.”

Whenthelittleboyfinished,hisfatherwasspeechless.Hissonadded,“Thanks,Dad,forshowinghowpoorweare!

”

有一天，一个富爸爸带着小儿子到乡下旅行，想让他看看世界上的贫穷是什么样子。

他们在一个非常贫穷的家庭的农场呆了一天一夜。

旅行回来后，父亲问儿子：

“旅行怎么样？

”“很好，爸爸！

”“你看到了穷人的日子是怎么过的吗？

”父亲问。

“看到了！

”“那你学到了什么？

”

想了一会儿之后，儿子回答说：

“我看到我们家养了一条狗，他们家养了4条狗；我们家的游泳池只通到花园中央，他们家有一条看不到头的小溪；我们在花园里安电灯，他们有满天星星；我们家的天井通到前院，他们拥有整个地平线。

”

小男孩说完后，他的父亲没有吭声。

他的儿子又补充道：

“谢谢你，爸爸，是你让我看到了我们是多么贫穷！

”

6、不完整的圆圈

Onceacirclemissedawedge.Thecirclewantedtobewhole,soitwentaroundlookingforitsmissingpiece.Butbecauseitwasincompleteandthereforecouldrollonlyveryslowly,itadmiredtheflowersalongtheway.Itchattedwithworms.Itenjoyedthesunshine.Itfoundlotsofdiferentpieces,butnoneofthemfit.Soitleftthemallbythesideoftheroadandkeptonsearching.Thenonedaythecirclefoundapiecethatfitperfectly.Itwassohappy.Nowitcouldbewhole,withnothingmissing.Itincorporatedthemissingpieceintoitselfandbegantoroll.Nowthatitwasaperfectcircle,itcouldrollveryfast,toofasttonoticetheflowersandtalktotheworms.Whenitrealizedhowdifferenttheworldseemedwhenitrolledsoquickly,itstopped,leftitsfoundpiecebythesideoftheroadandrolledslowlyaway.

Thelessonofthestory,wasthatinsomestrangesensewearemorewholewhenwearemissingsomething.Themanwhohaseverythingisinsomewaysapoorman.Hewillneverknowwhatiffeelsliketoyearn,tohope,tonourishhissoulwiththedreamofsomethingbetter.Thereiswholenessaboutthepersonwhohasacometotermswithhislimitations,whohasbeenbraveenoughtoletgoofhisunrealisticdreamsandnotfeellikeafailurefordoingso.

从前有一只圆圈缺了一块楔子。

圆圈想保持完整，便四处寻找失去的那块楔子。

由于它不完整，所以只能滚动很慢。

一路上，它对花儿露出羡慕之色。

它与蠕虫谈天说地。

它还欣赏到了阳光之美。

圆圈找到了许许多多不同的配件，但是没有一件能完美地与它相配。

所以，它将它们统统弃置路旁，继续寻觅。

终于有一天，它找到了一个完美的配件。

圆圈是那样地高兴，现在它可以说是完美无缺了。

它装好配件，然后滚动起来。

既然它已成了一个完整的圆圈，所以滚动得非常快，快得以至于无暇观赏花儿，也无暇与蠕虫倾诉心声。

圆圈快奔急骋，发现眼中的世界变得如此不同，于是，它不禁停了下来，将找到的那个配件留在路旁，又开始了慢慢的滚动。

这个故事告诉我们，从某种奇妙意义上讲，当我们失去了一些东西时反而感到更加完整。

一个拥有一切的人其实在某些方面是个穷人。

他永远也体会不到什么是渴望、期待以及对美好梦想的感悟。

人生的完整性在于一个人知道如何面对他的缺陷，如何勇敢的摒弃那些不现实的幻想而又不以此为缺憾。

7、把时间抛在身后

Theoldmonkoftentooktheyoungmonktothehilloutsidethetempletorecitethelection.

Onedaytheyoungmonksaidtotheoldmonk,"Howslowlythetimegoes!

"Theoldmonksaid,"Youcanhaveatrylikethis---inthemorningsittothewesttoread;andintheafternoonsittotheeasttoread."Atthemaster'sadvice,theyoungmonkrecitedthelectionagainstthesun.Byandbyheneglectedthepassageoftime.

Thenextdayhetoldtheoldmonk,"Master,you'resomasterlythatIforgettimewithaswitchofdirectionandabsorbmyselfinthelection."

Theoldmonksaid,"Whateveryoudo,onlyyouleavetimebehindyoucanyoufocusonitselflessly."

老和尚经常带着小和尚到寺院外面的山坡上诵读经文。

有一天，小和尚对老和尚说：

“时间过得真慢呀！

”老和尚说：

“你这样试试。

上午，你面朝西边坐着读；下午，你面朝东边坐着读。

”小和尚照老和尚的话去做，背对着太阳诵读经文。

渐渐的他就忽略了时间的快慢。

第二天，他对老和尚说，“师傅真高明，这一转换方向，我就忘记了时间，整个心思都浸在这经文里了。

”

老和尚说：

“无论做什么事，只有把时间放在身后，才能做到全神贯注，达到一种忘我的境界。

”

8、禅师和男孩

Afatherwasworriedabouthisson,whowassixteenyearsoldbuthadnocourageatall.SothefatherdecidedtocallonaBuddhistmonktotrainhisboy.

TheBuddhistmonksaidtotheboy'sfather,"Youshouldleaveyoursonalonehere.I'llmakehimintoarealmanwithinthreemonths.However,youcan’tcometoseehimduringthisperiod."

Threemonthslater,theboy'sfatherreturned.TheBuddhistmonkarrangedaboxingmatchbetweentheboyandanexperiencedboxer.Eachtimethefighterstrucktheboy,hefelldown,butatoncetheboystoodup;andeachtimeapunchknockedhimdown,theboystoodupagain.Severaltimeslater,theBuddhistmonkasked,"Whatdoyouthinkofyourchild?

""Whatashame!

"theboy'sfathersaid."Ineverthoughthewouldbesoeasilyknockeddown.Ineedn'thavehimlefthereanylonger."

"I'msorrythatthat'sallyousee.Don'tyouseethateachtimehefallsdown;hestandsupagaininsteadofcrying?

That'sthekindofcourageyouwantedhimtohave."

一位父亲为儿子担心。

儿子16岁了，却没有一点勇气。

于是，父亲决定去拜访一位禅师，请他训练儿子。

禅师对男孩的父亲说：

“你应该让他单独留在这里。

不出3个月，我要让他成为一个真正的男子汉。

不过，在这段时间，你不能来见他。

”

3个月后，男孩的父亲又来见禅师。

禅师安排这个男孩和一位经验丰富的拳师进行拳击比赛。

拳师每次一出手，男孩就倒在地上，但男孩又马上站起来；每次将他击倒，他就又站起来。

几个回合后，禅师问道：

“你认为自己的孩子怎么样？

”“真丢人！

”男孩的父亲说，“我绝没想到他这样不堪一击。

我不需要他再留在这里了。

”

“很遗憾，你只看到了这一点。

难道你没看到他每次倒下后并没有哭泣，而是重新站起来了吗？

这才是你想要他拥有的那种勇气。

”

9、宁静的真谛
