PREFACE

TheAssociationofHomeApplianceManufacturers(AHAM)developsstandardsinaccordancewithAHAM's"PolicyandProceduresGoverningTechnicalStandards"whichstates:

"AHAMStandardsshallbeinthebestinterest,mutually,ofconsumerswhouseappliances,theindustrieswhichprovideandserviceappliances,andotherinterestedparties.Theyshallrelatetoactualuseconditions,betechnicallyandscientificallysound."

UseorobservanceofAHAMstandardsisvoluntary.

AHAMstandardsarepresentedtotheAmericanNationalStandardsInstitute(ANSI)forrecognitionasAmericanNationalStandards.ThisstandardwassorecognizedonApril9,2002andbearstheAmericanNationalStandarddesignationANSI/AHAMAC-1-2002.

Thisstandardcontainstestprocedureswhichmaybeappliedtoanybrandormodelofportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleanerswithinthestatedconfinesofthestandard'slimitsofmeasurabilityformeasuringperformance.Resultsoftestsinaccordancewiththisstandardmaybepubliclystated.

Withregardtosafety,AHAMrecommendsthatallapplianceproducts-bothmajorandportable-manufacturedormarketedintheUnitedStatesbesubmittedtoanappropriateindependentlaboratoryforinspectionandlistinginconformancewiththesafetystandardsandproceduresfollowedbysuchlaboratories.TherelevantstandardsforportablehouseholdelectriccordconnectedroomaircleanersareUL867,"StandardforElectrostaticAirCleaners"andUL507,"StandardforFans."

Theappendicestothisstandardaregenerallyforinformationalpurposesexceptwherereferencedinthebodyofthestandard.

AHAMwelcomescommentsandsuggestionsregardingthisstandard.Anystandardmaybereviewedandimprovedasneeded.Allstandardsmustbeupdatedorreconfirmedatleasteveryfiveyears.Anyinterestedparty,atanytime,mayrequestachangeinanAHAMstandard.SuchrequestshouldbeaddressedtoAHAM'sPresident,andshouldbeaccompaniedbyastatementofreasonfortherequestandasuggestedalternateproposal.

Thisstandardmayinvolvehazardousmaterials,operations,andequipment.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblemsassociatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityofwhomeverusesthisstandardtoconsultandestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofanyregulatorylimitationspriortouse

1.PURPOSE

Thisstandardmethodestablishesuniform,repeatableproceduresandstandardmethodsformeasuringspecifiedproductcharacteristicsofportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleaners.

Thestandardmethodsprovideameanstocompareandevaluatedifferentbrandsofportablehouseholdelectriccordconnectedroomaircleanersregardingcharacteristicssignificanttoproductuse.

Thestandardmethodsofmeasurementarenotintendedtoinhibitimprovementandinnovationinproducttesting,designorperformance.

2.SCOPE

Thisstandardmethodappliestoportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleanersasdefinedinSection3.

Thisstandardmethodincludesdefinitionsandsafetycharacteristicsofportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleanersofthetypesindicated.

Thisstandardmethodmeasurestherelativereductionbytheaircleanerofparticulatemattersuspendedintheairinaspecifiedtestchamber.

Thisstandardmethodhasdefinedlimitsofmeasurability.Thestatisticalvalidityoftestresultsoutsideofthestatedpracticallimitsisquestionableandunevaluated.Thepracticallimitsofmeasurabilityare:
