   PublishingtheirfindingsinthejournalSustainableChemistryandEngineering,thescientists'statethatinsteadofmakingplasticgoaway,theycanbreakitdownandreuseit,usingchemistrytodestroywhatchemistrybroughttotheworldwhenplasticwasdevelopedbackin1907.

   Theprocessuses"supercritical"water-heatedtoaround450degreesCelsius(842degreesFahrenheit),beyondthekeypointatwhichdistinctliquidandvaporphases(气液态)exist-toboilplasticwasteintoanoil,theresearchersexplain.Ittakesacoupleofhoursforthesupercriticalwatertocompletethetransformation,buttheresultisakindofoilthatcanbeusedasgasolineorfuel.Itcanalsobeturnedintootherproducts.
