Theteamfoundthatathighaltitudethebrainstem,whichplaysacriticalroleinsupportingbasiclivingfunctions,receivedbloodattheexpenseofareasresponsibleformoreadvancedcognitivefunctions.Butinpeoplewhotookoxiracetam,bloodflowingthroughoutthebrainrose,thusofferingmoreoxygentotheseareas.Thismaybehowthedrugseemstolessencognitiveproblemslikewithlowoxygen.
