OnApril30,1970,USPresidentRichardNixonannouncedanescalationofthewarinVietnamwithamilitaryinvasionofCambodia,whichneighborsVietnam.Atthattime,thewarwasextremelyunpopularwiththepublicandmanypeoplewerefrustratedandangeredbythisnew
developmen—especiallystudents.ManypeoplehadbeenencouragedbyNixon'spromisetwoyearsearliertoendthewar,but,in1970,therewasstillnoendinsight.
