ReggieMiller,aworkerofthelocalnewspaper,heardthescreams,too.Herushedbacktotheofficeto phone thepolice,andthenranbackwithsomeplasticropes——usedtotieupnewspapers.

”Ifyouwanttostayphysicallyandmentallyhealthy,thearticlessaid,avoidstressfulevents.

Butsuchsimplisticadviceisimpossibletofollow.Evenifstressfuleventsaredangerous,many–likethedeathofalovedone–areimpossibletoavoid.Moreover,anywarningtoavoidallstressfuleventsisaprescriptionforstayingawayfromopportunitiesaswellastrouble.Sinceanychangecanbestressful,apersonwhowantedtobecompletelyfreeofstresswouldnevermarry,haveachild,takeanewjobormove.
