iamdelightedthatourtwogovernmentsarehelpingtosupportavisitoftheu.s.tabletennisassociationtochinatocelebratethe40thanniversaryofpingpongdiplomacy.thisisanimportanteventnotonlyforthosewithaloveofsportsbutforthosewithaninterestindiplomacyandthedevelopmentoftheu.s.-chinarelationship.

我高兴地看到我们两国政府协助美国乒乓球协会（u.s.tabletennisassociation）派团访问中国，庆祝乒乓外交40周年。

这不仅是对体育爱好者，而且也是对所有关心外交和美中关系发展的人的一项盛事。

pingpongdiplomacyplayedanimportantroleinthehistoryofu.s.-chinarelations.oneofmypredecessors,henrykissinger,understooditssignificance,andrecognizedthatasourtwogreatnationsopenedlinesofcommunication,therestoftheworldwouldbeaffected.fortyyearslater,werecognizehowsportsinitiatedamutuallybeneficialrelationshipandhowfarwehavecomesincepingpongdiplomacytookcenter-stagein1971.theu.s.missioninchinaisamongourlargestintheworld,andthechinesegovernmenthassixconsulatesintheunitedstatesthatassistthemanychinesecitizensandbusinessesresidentinamerica.

自乒乓外交在1971年登上舞台显要位置以来，我们已经取得多么长足的进展。

美国驻华使团是美国最大的驻外使团之一，而中国政府在美国设有六个领事馆，帮助在美国的众多中国公民和常驻企业。

了解中国使我们美国人民受益——在经济、教育、文化和艺术等各种不同领域。

而我知道，美国与中国共同经历和分享的历史与文化也使中国社会受益。

《中国外交2014》画册是过去一年中国对外关系蓬勃发展的真实写照，它以2014年中国重大外交事件为主线，从不同角度再现了丰富多彩的外交场景，真实记录了中国坚持走和平发展道路的历程。

画册通过300多幅精美图片，生动地展示了中国积极开展高层交往、促进与各国务实合作的重大活动，再现了在上海世博会、广州亚运会上中外友好交流的生动场景，彰显了中国建设性参与国际多边合作的政策理念，记录了中国政府全力维护海外侨胞合法权益的重大行动。

世界经济复苏缓慢，一些国家主权债务问题突出。

西亚北非局势持续动荡，对有关国家经济和社会发展产生深远影响。

国际恐怖主义威胁仍很严峻，能源资源、气候变化、水和粮食安全等全球性问题十分突出。

面对纷繁复杂的形势，面对在维护社会稳定、实现可持续发展方面所面临的共同挑战，世界各国加强协调、深化合作的共同愿望进一步上升。

以合作促发展，以合作谋安全的理念更加深入人心。

胡主席在《中俄睦邻友好合作条约》签署10周年之际成功访俄，中俄全面战略协作伙伴关系进一步深化。

中欧高层互访频繁，“中欧青年交流年”成功开启。

中国与周边国家睦邻友好继续加强，积极参加区域合作机制，加强防灾减灾合作，努力推动热点问题降温，为促进本地区和平发展发挥了积极作用。

中国与发展中国家的团结合作不断扩大，成功举办金砖国家领导人第三次会晤，推动其成为南南合作的平台和南北合作的桥梁，深化了各

领域务实合作。

中国积极参加国际多边合作，主张联合国在国际事务中发挥核心作用，支持二十国集团峰会在全球经济治理中发挥更大作用，大力促进国际经济对话协调，坚持反对保护主义。

中国政府秉承“以人为本、外交为民”宗旨，全力应对海外安全突发事件，中国公民和机构的海外合法权益得到有效保护。

展望未来，中国与世界的关系正在进入一个合作更加广泛、联系更加密切的时期。

随着“十二五”规划的全面启动落实，中国将加快经济发展方式的转变，以实现国民经济又好又快发展。

根据“十二五”规划，中国2014年经济规模将达约8.6万亿美元，预计未来五年将进口近10万亿美元的商品，与世界各国经贸合作将进一步扩大。

中国的发展离不开世界，中国的发展也将为世界带来更多的机遇。

我们将坚定不移地走和平发展道路，坚定不移地奉行互利共赢的开放战略，与国际社会一道，共同促进世界的和平、发展与繁荣。
