AliceWalkerisoneofthemostoutstandingblackfemalewritersintheAmericanliteraturehistory.Herworksmostvividlyreflectsloveandhate,happinessandsadness,fantasyanddisappointmentofblackwomen.TheColorPurpleishermasterpiece,whichcreatedafreshblackfemaleimagebynarratingblackwomen’ssuffering.CriticsandlinguistsintheworldgavealotofattentiontothesuccessofTheColorPurple.

ForeignscholarsmainlyconcentratedonreviewofTheColorPurple,whichcanbedividedintoseveralaspects.

Firstly,somescholarsdiscussedtheimpliedmeaningofthepurpleinTheColorPurple.Forexample,inAmerica,TeresaTavormina（1986）madeanalysisoftheparallelsbetweenclothingandtheperceptionofthecharacters,Celiecannotgetherpreferableclothesofpurplecolor,indicatingthatshehasbeendeprivedoffreedom,TheColorPurplealsoimpliesthatshehasbeenbeaten,forthepurpleisalsothecolorofscars;onthecontrary,thesymbolsofShug’sfurclothinggivesustheimpressionthatShugismuchmorepowerful,sincefuristhesignofanimal.

Secondly,somescholarsconcentratedtheheroineCelieinTheColorPurple.Forexample,LindaAbbaandonato（1991）,shetalksaboutthewakenessoftheidentityoftheblackwomeninthenovel,shetakesCeileasthetypicalone.

Inaddition,therearesomescholarstoanalyzethestatusoftheblackinthesocietyfromracialangle.Forexample,LindaSelzer（1995）discussesthehabitsandtraditionsbetweentheraceanddomesticityofAmericanfamily,especiallyintheblackpeople’sfamily.Manycommentsinabroadalsoarefromwomanismperspective.Forexample,SusanWillis（1987）analyzedthethemeofTheColorPurplefromtheperspectiveoftheblackfeminism.Accordingtoherthesis,TheColorPurpleiscoincidentwiththeideologyofblackfeminism.Thewaytosaveblackwomenfromsufferingisobviouslythemainprinciplesofblackfeminism.ForeignscholarsmadealotofstudyofTheColorPurpleitself,andatthesametime,somescholarsalsopayattentiontothecomparativestudyofTheColorPurple.Itisbepointedoutthatallofthewomenonlyrealizethemselvesisagreatuniqueindividual,andthentheycanwintruespiritualexistence.

InChineseacademicfield,researchesonTheColorPurplemainlyconcentrateintwoformsofcriticsandcollectedpaper.Manycriticsstudieditfromtheperspectiveofthedifference.Somestudiedtheprotagonist’sawakeningfromtheperspectiveofblackfeminist,forexample,HuangL.N.（2002）pointedoutthatinspiteofthelimitationinthenovel,WalkerrevealsusavividdepictionoftheAfro-Americanfamilylife,especiallytheblackwomen’ssufferings,strugglesandfinaltriumphs.Themostimportantoneisherfocusontheinternal“black-on-black”oppressionandblackwomen’sfightfortheirownrights.Inthesameyear,ZhangL.J.（2002）studiedAliceWalker’sotherthreenovelstointerprettheawakeningofblackwomen.HepointedoutthattheprocessofblackwomenawakeningmayreflectchangesofAmericanblackwomen’ssocialstatus.

Somescholarsalsoexploredthedeconstructionismcontainedinthenovel,forexample,LiuYuan（2007）thoughtthatAlicewalkernotonlyhighlypraisedthecourageandstrengthrepresentedbyblackwomeninthefaceofdoubleoppression.Andtheygaveblackmenempathyability,andpromotedtheirgrowth.Healsothoughtthattheybrokeandrewrotepatriarchalsocialform,tosomeextent.

AliceWalkerisoneofthemostoutstandingblackwomenwritersinAmericanLiterature.Thecolorpurplewhichwaspublishedin1982,isconsideredasherrepresentativework.ThenovelhasarousedgreatreverberationsinceitspublicationandalsomakesAliceWalkerwinthePulitzerPrizeandtheNationalBookAward.Greatlyinfluencedbyfeminism,AliceWalkerregardsachievingracialequalityandwomen’sliberationasherlifecareer,whichwasgreatlyreflectedinthenovelTheColorPurple.Thenoveldeeplyanalysesthedoubleoppressionofblackwomen,whichwereracismandsexismandrevealedthebarriersofblackwomenawakeningandliberation.Itencouragesblackwomentowakeupandfightforselfhood.Itexpandedthestruggleforwomen’sequalrightstothegroupofblackpeople.Thenovelexposestheblackmenandthewhitepeople’soppressionanddiscriminationtoblackwomenandshowstheblackwomen’sunitytogetridoftheoppressionandrebuildtheharmoniousrelationshipbetweenblackmenandwomen.
