Introduction
TheGreatWallofChina:
dynasties,dragons&warriorsexhibitiongivesstudentstheopportunitytodiscovermoreaboutoneoftheworld’sgreatestancientcivilizations.Studentswillbeabletogaininsightsintotheextraordinary2000-yearhistoryofChinafromthecollectionsofartefactsondisplay.ThisLOTEunithasbeendevelopedtosupporttheExhibitiontobeheldattheMelbourneMuseumin2007andenhanceChineselanguagelearning.Activitiesinclude:
establishingpriorknowledge,practisingChinesecalligraphy,learningaboutChinesemeasurementandmoney,andcreatingpresentations.Itisimportantthatstudentsbewell-preparedfortheirMelbourneMuseumvisit.

Paintingandcalligraphywereverymuchconnected.Thesametoolsandskillswereused.Calligraphygavepaintingvitality,rhythmoflineandeconomyofstrokes.
Calligraphywasalsoverymuchapartofapaintingandconsideredjustasbeautifulasamountainorstream.
ShowstudentssomeChinesecalligraphy,explainingthatitisanancientChineseartformdatingback3,000yearswithcharactersthatbeganaspictures.

Attheexhibition,studentsareaskedtousetheirimaginationtodrawthefirstemperor–QinShinghuang秦始皇.Theythencolourthepictureinthecolourstheyconsiderappropriateintermsoftimeandculture,andlabelthecoloursinChinese.
