Famousuniversitiesarelocatedallovertheworld,andtheyattractstudentsfromallovertheworld,too.OxfordandCambridgearethetwooldestuniversitiesinBritainwithahistoryofOxforddatingbackto1100s.Princetonwasestablishedin1746andislocatedinPrinceton,NewJersey,astateontheeastcoastofAmerica.MITbeganin1861andislocatedinanothereastern state,Massachusetts.StanfordisafamousuniversityinCalifornia.In1891,Mr.andMrs.LelandStanfordwantedtoestablish auniversityinthewestwhereyoungmenandyoungwomencouldearn adegree.TheydonatedmanyacresoflandtotheestablishmentofStanford.ItisoneofthelargestcampusesinAmericatoday.

HarvardistheoldestuniversityinAmericasurroundedby manyhistoricbuildingsandanatmosphere ofAmericanhistory.Studentsattending Harvardhavemorethan40areasofundergraduatestudiestochoosefrom.Thereareschoolsofmedicine,business,design,law,publichealth,publicpolicy,toname afew.Firstyearstudents,calledfreshmen,arerequiredtoliveoncampus.Sophomoresandupperclassmencanchooseoffcampuslivinginanapartment orahouse.Therearemanyactivitiesstudentscanparticipateinfrommusictosportstostudentgovernment.
