Thiscourseisanintroductiontothehumanresourcemanagement(HRM)functionandrelatedelementsandactivitiestoexaminetheroleofthehumanresourceprofessionalasastrategicpartnerinmanagingtoday’sorganizations.Keyfunctionssuchasrecruitment,selection,development,performancemanagement,appraisal,retention,compensation,andlaborrelationsareexamined.Implicationsofthelegalandglobalenvironmentsareexaminedandcurrentissuessuchasemployeeengagementandemployeehealthandsafetyareanalyzed.EmphasisisplacedonthemoderndayimportanceofHRMatthecorporatelevelaswellastheimportanceofHRMinsmallbusinessesandentrepreneurialfirms.
