ThePalmIslandsarethelargestartificialislandsintheworldandareunderconstructioninDubai,intheUnitedArabEmirates.Theyarebeingdevelopedastourist,leisure,andresidentialresorts,

Afterfouryearsofplanningandcarefulconsiderationoftheenvironmentalissues,constructionstartedin2001.Dutchengineerswithexperienceofreclaiminglandfromtheseawereemployedinthebuildingofthefirsttwoislands.Thesiteforallthreeislandsisanareaoftheseawherethewaterisnotverydeep.Sandistakenfromtheseabedandsprayedintotheconstructionsite.Althoughtheshallowwaterfacilitatesthisprocess,theislandsarestillveryexposedtothecurrentsandtidalmovementsofthesea.Rocksareusedtoholdthesandin
