TextIn1993,aNationalCancerInstituteresearchernamedDeanHamermadewhatseemedtobeanastonishingdiscoveryaboutthegeneticsofhumanbehavior.HehadlocatedalinktomalehomosexualityontheXchromosome,HamerreportedinScience.Thestorywassplashedacrossfrontpagesaroundthecountry.Atlast,overlydotingmothersandearlycross-dressinggameswereoffthehookandthepredilectionsofeveryonefromWaltWhitmantoLiberacecouldbeexplainedbyafewerrantproteins.Hamersarticle,basedonanexaminationoftheDNAof40gaybrothers,ledtomass-marketbookdealsandminorcelebrity.Thereisonlyonesmall,underreportedglitch:
