AsthesurveythatwasdonebyChinesequalitycommitteeandtheCCWResearch,Lenovohasachieved“thefirstproducttochooseintheChineseITconsumptionmarket”owingtoitsadvancetechnicalstrengthandexcellentservice.ItisthetwelfthtimethatLenovohadwontheprice.

AccordingtothelatestdatathatwasgivenoutinJulybyIDCandGartner(twoprofessionalmarketresearchfirm),Lenovohasbecameword’slargestpersonalcomputersupplier.TheIDCpointedoutthattheworld’smarketshareofthesecondquarterin2013hasincreasedto16.7%andbecametheleaderofpersonalcomputerindustry.

Inthe9thJuly2013,Lenovoannouncedthattheyhadmadeagreatprogressintheworld’srichestcompanyofthetopfivehundred.Inthelastyear,theirrankwasthreehundredandseventyandduetolastmonth,theybecamethethreehundredandtwentynine.Theirbusinessvolumehasreachedthirtyfourbilliondollars

LenovohasthepotentialtoharnessandbuilduponourexperiencesandsuccessesinChineseITindustry,butweneedyourhelptoachievethisgoal.

Lenovo’svision

Lenovo’svisionisthatLenovowillcreatepersonaldevicesmorepeopleareinspiredtoown,andtheculturethatmorepeopleareaspiretojoinandanenduring,trustedbusinessthatiswellrespectedaroundtheworld.ThisvisionguidesusinpursuitofLenovo’smissiontobecomeoneoftheworld’sgreatestpersonaltechnologycompany.Andthiswillbeaccomplishedbythefollowingthreeparts:

Foundation

LiufoundedLenovoin1984withagroupoftenengineersinBeijing withthehelpof200,000 yuan.Lenovoofficiallystatesthatitwasfoundedon1November1984.Lenovo'sincorporationwasapprovedbytheChinesegovernmentonthesameday.JiaXufu,oneofthefoundersofLenovo,indicatesthefirstmeetinginpreparationforstartingthecompanywasheldon17Octoberofthesameyear.Elevenpeople,theentiretyoftheinitialstaff,attended.Eachofthefounderswasmiddle-agedmembersoftheInstituteofComputingTechnology,ChineseAcademyofSciences.The200,000yuanwasusedasstart-upcapitalwasapprovedby ZengMaochao.ThenameforthecompanyagreeduponatthismeetingwastheChineseAcademyofSciencesComputerTechnologyResearchInstituteNewTechnologyDevelopmentCompany.

Theirfirstsignificanteffort,anattempttoimporttelevisions,failed.Thegrouprebuiltitselfwithinayearbyconductingqualitychecksoncomputersfornewbuyers.LenovosoonstarteddevelopingacircuitboardthatwouldallowIBM-compatiblepersonalcomputerstoprocess Chinesecharacters.ThisproductwasLenovo'sfirstmajorsuccess.Lenovoalsotriedandfailedtomarketadigitalwatch.Liusaid,"Ourmanagementteamoftendifferedonwhichcommercialroadtotravel.Thisledtobigdiscussions,especiallybetweentheengineeringchiefandmyself.Hefeltthatifthequalityoftheproductwasgood,thenitwouldsellitself.ButIknewthiswasnottrue,thatmarketingandotherfactorswerepartoftheeventualsuccessofaproduct."Lenovo'searlydifficultieswerecompoundedbythefactthatitsstaffhadlittlebusinessexperience."Weweremainlyscientistsanddidn'tunderstandthemarket",Liusaid."Wejustlearnedbytrial-and-error,whichwasveryinteresting—butalsoverydangerous",saidLiu.In1990,Lenovostartedtomanufactureandmarketcomputersusingitsownbrandname.

HeadquarteredinBeijing LenovoBuilding,Lenovohasoperationsinmorethan60countriesandsellsitsproductsinaround160countries.Lenovowasfoundedin Beijingin1984andincorporatedin HongKong in1988underitspreviousname,Legend.Lenovoislistedonthe HongKongStockExchange andisaconstituentofthe HangSengChina-AffiliatedCorporationsIndex,oftenreferredtoas"RedChips".

Intheearly2013,LenovoannouncedtheadditionofYahoofounderJerryYangtoitsboard.Lenovo’sCEOsaid”Jerry’sappointmentasanobservertoourboardfurthersLenovo’sreputationasatransparentinternationalcompany”.SpeakingofJerry,Yangsaid”webelievethattheywilladdagreatdealtoourstrategicthinking,long-termdirectionand,ultimately,ourabilitytoachieveouraspirationsinthePCplusera.”

Productsandservices

Smartphonesandtablets

Lenovolaunchedthe LePhone inChinainordertocompeteagainstothersmartphones.ThesesamephonesaremarketedasIdeaPhonesoutsideofChina.Inearly2013,Lenovo'sCEOannouncedthatthecompanywouldstartsellingmobilephonesintheUSbytheendoftheyear.

AccordingtoIHSiSuppli,Lenovowasatop-threesmartphonemakerinChinawitha16.5%marketshareinthefirstquarterof2012.AccordingtoaMayreportreleasedbyIDCLenovoranksfourthintheglobaltabletmarket.AsofNovember2012,LenovowasthesecondlargestsellerofmobilephonesinChinawhenmeasuredbyvolume.

Smarttelevisions

InNovember2011,Lenovosaiditwouldsoonunveila smarttelevision productcalledLeTV,expectedforreleaseinthefirstquarterof2012."ThePC,communicationsandTVindustriesarecurrentlyundergoinga“smart”transformation.Inthefuture,userswillhavemanysmartdevicesandwilldesireanintegratedexperienceofhardware,softwareandcloudservices."LiuJun,presidentofLenovo'smobile-Internetanddigital-home-businessdivision.

Personalandbusinesscomputing

Whilemanyarguethatcomputingisenteringa"post-PCera",Lenovo'sCEO, YangYuanqing,believesthatthepersonalcomputerisstillrelevantandthatcomputingisreallyenteringwhathecallsthe"PCplusera".Inordertoavoidcommoditypricingandcompeteagainstmobiledevices,YanghaspushedLenovotopursueinnovativenewPCdesignssuchasitspopular IdeaPadYoga products,ThinkPadHelix,andThinkPadTwist.Lenovohasachievedsignificantsuccesswiththishigh-valuestrategyanditnowcontrolsmorethan40%ofthemarketforWindowscomputerspricedabove900dollarsintheUnitedStates.

ThinkPad

ThinkPadisalineofbusiness-oriented laptopcomputers knownfortheirboxyblackdesign,modeledafteratraditionalJapanese lunchbox. ThinkPadswereoriginallyan IBM product;theyhavebeenmanufacturedandsoldbyLenovosinceearly2005,followingitsacquisitionofIBM's personalcomputer division.TheThinkPadhasbeenusedinspaceandistheonlylaptopcertifiedforuseonthe InternationalSpaceStation.

ThinkCentre

ThinkCentreisalineofbusiness-oriented Desktopcomputers whichwasintroducedin2003byIBMandsincehasbeenproducedandsoldbyLenovosince2005.ThinkCentrecomputerstypicallyincludemid-rangetohigh-endprocessors,optionsfordiscretegraphicscards,andmulti-monitorsupport.

ThinkServer

TheThinkServerproductlinebeganwiththeTS100fromLenovo. Theserverwasdevelopedunderagreementwith IBM,bywhichLenovowouldproducesingle-socketanddual-socketserversbasedonIBM’sxSeriestechnology. Anadditionalfeatureoftheserverdesignwasasupportpackageaimedatsmallbusinesses. ThefocusofthissupportpackagewastoprovidesmallbusinesseswithsoftwaretoolstoeasetheprocessofservermanagementandreducedependenceonITsupport.

ThinkVisiondisplays

High-endcomputerdisplaysaremarketedundertheThinkVisionname.ThinkVisiondisplaysshareacommondesignlanguagewithotherTHINKdevicessuchastheThinkPad lineofnotebookcomputersand ThinkCentre desktops.

IdeaPad

TheIdeaPadlineofconsumer-oriented laptopcomputers wasintroducedinJanuary2008.TheIdeaPadistheresultofLenovo'sownresearchanddevelopment;UnliketheThinkPadlineofnotebooks,itsdesignandbrandingwerenotinheritedfromIBM.TheIdeaPadline'sdesignlanguagediffersmarkedlyfromth
