ThistheoryiswhatledtothecreationofabrandnewrobotinSwitzerlandearlierthismonth.Roboy,asthenewmachineiscalled,hasvarioushuman-likeabilitiessuchashand-shakingandbicycle-riding,butinsteadofaskin-likecovering,Roboyiswrappedinshinywhitearmorthatclearlyindicatesitsrobotstatus.

“Aslongaspeoplecanclearlyseethattherobotisamachine,eveniftheyprojecttheirfeelingsintoit,thentheyfeelcomfortable,”RolfPfeifer,thecreatorofRoboyfromtheUniversityofZurich,Switzerland,toldtheBBC.

Buttheproblemthatpeoplehavewithrobotsisnotjustwiththewaytheylook.Italsohastodowiththerolesthattheyplayinourlives.

AsurveylastyearofEuropeanUnioncountriesshowedthat88percentofthoseinterviewedagreedthatrobotsare“necessaryastheycandojobsthataretoohardordangerousforpeople”,suchasspaceexplorationandwarfighting.Butwhenitcomestotakingcareofchildren,60percentofrespondentssaidthatrobotsshouldnotbeallowedtoparticipate,becauseasrobotsbecomemoresophisticated（先进的）,parentsmaybetemptedtohandovertoomuchresponsibilitytothem.
