Cleanupthe2-Dmesh

TetraMesh

TheProcessManagerisastep-by-steptoolprovidingachecklistofprocedurestoallowtheusertoquicklyorganizeandtetmeshageometricmodel. 

Eachstepisprovidedinahierarchallistprovidingtheorderinwhichtheprocessneedstobeperformedandprovidingspecializedtoolsateachsteptosimplifytheprocess. 

Thesesteps,whiletheycanbedonemanually,canbeperformedintheTetraMeshProcessManagertemplateinamuchreducedtimeframe.

Exercise

Step1:

 

InitiatetheProcessManager.

1.

FromtheMenuBar,selectMesh,thenCreate,thenTetraMeshProcess,thenCreateNewtoaccesstheProcessManager.

2.

Enterasessionnameorleaveitasmy_session.

Note:

Creatingasessionnameandsavingthesessionallowstheusertostoptheprocessbeforecompletionandthenloaditagainatalatertime,pickinguptheprocessatthepointitwasleftoff.

3.

Selectaworkingfolder.

4.

ClickCreate.

Step2:

Importgeometry.

AtthispointtheTetraMeshProcesstabwillopenintheTabareaandwillautomaticallyassembletheTetraMeshProcessFlow. 

Thefirststep,GeometryImport,ishighlightedandthepanelareahasbeenconfiguredwithspecificpanelsforaidingtheTetrameshProcessManagertemplate. 

YoucanswitchbacktothenormalHyperMeshpanelareausingtheProcessManagerTaskicon(

). 

Right-clickitandselecttheHyperMeshPanelicon. 

YoucangobacktotheProcessManagerpanelsagainbyinsteadselectingtheProcessManagericon.

Inthepanelarea,changetheImportTypetoHMModel.

Onthetoolbar,clickOpen.hmFile(

)andselectthefiletetmesh_pm.hmfrom<

installation_directory>

\tutorials\hm\.

ClickImport.

ThemodelwillimportandagreencheckwillappearnexttoGeometryImportintheProcessManagerindicatingthatstepisnowcomplete.

Step3:

Cleanupthegeometry.

FromtheGeometryColorModeselector(

) 

pickByTopoandclickShadedGeometry(

).

Inthepanelarea,selecttheEdgeToolstab.

ClickIsolate.

Thiswillisolatethesurfaceswithfreeedgesonthem.

IsolatedSurfaceswithfreeedges.

SelecttheFreeEdgestabandclickEquivalence.

Thiswillfixallthefreeedges. 

Ifthisdidnotcorrectallofthefreeedges,theTolerancevaluecouldbeincreaseduntilallfreeedgesareequivalenced.

5.

SelecttheEdgeToolstabandclickIsolateagain.

Awindowshouldappearwiththemessage,“Noedgesfound…”Thisconfirmsalledgeshavebeenfixed.

6.

ClickDisplayAll.

7.

ClickACCEPT.

TheGeometryCleanupstephasbeencompletedandshouldhaveagreencheckmarkbyit.

Step4:

OrganizeandCleanupholes.

Thisstepwillallowyoutoorganizethesurfacesthatformholesinthemodel. 

TheTetraMeshProcessManagercanautomaticallysortandorganizeholesintoseparatecomponentcollectorsbasedupontheirdiameter. 

Thiswillallowyoutospecifymeshtype,circumferenceelementcount,andlongitudinalelementsizefordifferentholegroups.

Inthepanelarea,clickthe+(

)button.

Thiswilladdathirdlinetothetable.

Onthefirstline,enter3.3intotheD<

field.

Thiswillorganizeallholeswithadiameterbetween0and3.3units,asindicatedbytheRangefield,intoacollector.

Enter5intothesecondrowand10intothethird.

ThiswillallowHyperMeshtoorganizetheholesintothreecollectorsthatwillincludeholesrangingfrom0-3.3units,3.3-5unitsand5-10unitscollectively.

ClickAutoOrganize.

Alloftheholesinthemodellessthan10unitswillnowbeorganizedintothreecomponentcollectors,eachwithadifferentcolor.

ClicktheModeltabandexpandtheselection.

Youwillseethreenewcomponentcollectorswiththenamesolidholesfollowedbythenumericalaverageofthediameterrangeoftheholesorganized.

Transparentviewofmodelshowingallholesandboresorganized

ReturntotheTetraMeshProcesstab

IntheNumCircumferenceElemsfieldenter12foreachrow.

IntheLongitudinalElemSizefieldenter1foreachrow.

TheNumCircumferenceElemsfieldgovernsthenumberofelementsthatwillbemeshedaroundtheholewhiletheLongitudinalElemSizefielddictatestheunitsizeoftheelementsthroughthelengthofthehole.

9.

TheOrganize&

CleanupHolesstepisnowcompleteshouldnowhaveagreencheckmarknexttoit.

Step5:

Meshholes.

InthepanelareayouwillnoticethateachholediameterrowhasaMeshTypefieldwithapull-downprovidingtheoptionsofR-triaregularandR-triaunionjack. 

VerifythatallaresetforR-triaregularandclickMeshAll. 

(TheR-triaunionjackmeshpatternwillbediscussedinalaterstep.)

Youwillnoticethisprocessprovidesaperfectlystraighttriameshdownthelengthoftheholewithnotwisting.

ThecheckmarkintheMeshHolesstepwillnowturngreen.

Step6:

Organizeandcleanupfeatures.

Thisstepallowsyoutohighlightandorganizefeaturesthatrequirespecificmeshcontrolsbeyondtheoverallmeshpatternthatwillbeappliedtotheremainderofthepartinalaterstep. 

Thisorganizationaltoolwillplacetherequiredsurfacesintotheirowncollectororcollectorsandallowyoutosetmeshsizeandpatternrequirementsforeach.

IntheDefineNewwindowthatopens,typeFacesandclickOK.

Selectallfiveoftheflatfacesaroundthecircumferenceofthepartasshowninthefollowingimage.

Clickproceed.

Facesthatneedtobepicked

ThepanelwillswitchtotheOrganizepanelwithyoursurfacespre-selectedtomoveintoanewcomponentcalledgrp_Faces.

Clickmove,thenreturn.

Clickthe+(

)buttonagain.

IntheDefineNewwindowthatopens,typeTopHoleandclickOK.

Rotatethemodelsoyouarelookingatitfromunderneathintothecenter,andselectthesurfacesshowninthefollowingimage.

Withthistoolyouneedonlyselectoneofthetwosurfacesthatmakeupacylinder;

whenyouclickproceedHyperMeshwillautomaticallyselecttheothersurfaces.

10.

IntheOrganizepanel,clickmove,thenreturn.

Yourmodelshouldthenlooksimilartothefollowingimage,withthefacesinonecollectorandthetopholeinanother. 

Yourcolorsmayvaryslightly.

11.

ClickACCEPT.

Step7:

Organizeandcleanupfilets.

Oftenabettermeshcanbeachievedifyourfilletsaresplitdownthecenter. 

Thestepwillallowyoutoautomaticallysplityourfilletsbasedonminimumandmaximumradiuscriteria.

ClickComponents.

Selectthepartinanareathathasnotbeenorganizedintoanewcomponentsothatthelargepurplepartisselected.

LeavetheMinRadiusat0andtheMaxRadiusat5andmakesuretheSuppressFilletTangentEdgesoptionisactive.

ClickCleanup.

Youwillnoticethatmanyofthefilletsnowhaveanedgerunningdownthecenterandtheoriginaledgesaresuppressed.

Step8:

Meshfeatures.

InthisstepyouwillmeshthefeaturesthatyouorganizedinStep6. 

Thepanelareawillshowatablewithyourorganizedfeaturesinitandwillgiveyoutheoptionofselectingameshtypeandsizeforeachfeature.

FortheFacesfeature,clickthepull-downunderMeshTypeandpicktrias.

InthefieldunderElemSize,enter0.5.

FortheTopHolefeature,selectR-triaunionjackfortheMeshType.

ForElemSize,enter0.5.

ClickMeshAll.

NotethedistinctiveUnionJackmeshpattern(

)inthetopholeareaandtheconnectivityofthemeshtothepreviouslymeshedholes.

Step9:

Organizeandcleanup.

Thisstepallowstheusertoorganizeandcleanuptheremainingportionofthemodelthatwillthenfallundertheglobalmeshingparameters. 

Astheremainingsurfacesarealreadyinthecomponentyouwishthemtobein,thereisnoneedforfurtherorganization.

Step10:

Mesh/remesh.

Thisstepiswheretheremainingmodelwillbegloballymeshed. 

Elementsizeandtypecanbesetforallremainingcomponentsthatremainunmeshed.

IntheElementSizefield,enter1.

SetMeshTypetotrias.

ClickMesh.

Step11:

Cleanupelements.

Atthispointthemodelshouldbeentirelysurfacemeshed. 

Properadherencetothepreviousstepsensuresasurfacemeshthatisproperlyconnectedandcontrolledbythepreviouslyenteredvalues. 

Thisstepwillnowallowtheusertoverifyapropermeshandcleanupanyissuesthatarefound.

Inthepanelarea,clickComponents.

Selectallofthecomponentsandclickproceed.

Leaveallofthevaluesattheirdefault(MinSize–0.25,MaxFeatureAngle–60.0,NormalsAngle–150.0)andclickAutoCleanup.

Thefollowingmessageshouldappear.

Thisindicatesthatallfailedelementshavebeenfixedandtherearenofurthererrorsinthemodel.

(Optional)TheManualtaballowstheusertomanuallycheckthemodelforfreeedgesandt-junctionsandfixanythatarefound. 

Thereisalsotheoptiontodisplaynormals.Usetheseoptionstofindandfix
