当时的情景至今还记忆犹新，难以忘怀。
今天，在我即将结束在中国的访问之际，我怀着真诚和喜悦再次与大家相聚，并与各位话别。
这是我首次以教务长身份出访中国，这次访问虽然短暂，却颇有成效。
访问期间，我与四川大学、清华大学及北京大学更新和签署了合作谅解备忘录。

seffective.Duringmyvisit,IUpdatedandsignedamemorandumofunderstanding（MoU）oncooperationwithSichuanUniversity,TsinghuaUniversityandPekingUniversity.
华盛顿大学与中国有着广泛的联系。
除了每年派遣近200名学生到中国留学以外，还招收300多名中国留学生和越来越多的访问学者。
2009年，有200多名研究人员代表中国一些顶尖的学术机构在华盛顿大学从事研究。
WashingtonUniversityhaveextensivecontactwithChina.Inadditiontosendnearly200studentstostudyinChinaeachyear,WashingtonUniversityalsorecruitedmorethan300Chinesestudentsstudyingabroadandmoreandmorevisitingscholars.In2009,thereweremorethan200researcherswhorepresentedsomefamousacademicinstitutionswereengagedinresearchesinWashingtonUniversity.
我此次访问中国，其实也蕴含了一层个人的意义。
我父母都出生在中国，上个世纪30年代末移居美国。
他们都曾在中国获得了学位。
我一直希望能来中国更好地学习中文，熟悉祖先的文化和历史。

这使我比以往任何时候都更加清楚地认识到国家之间相互理解的重要性。

我非常期待参与关于中小企业发展的讨论。
