Onceuponatime,therewasawonderfuloldmanwholovedeverythingontheland——animalsandplants.

Onedaywhilewalkingthroughthewoods,theoldmanfoundacocoonofabutterfly.Hetookithome.Afewdayslater,asmallopeningappeared;hesatandwatchedthebutterflyforseveralhoursasitstruggledtoforceitsbodythroughthatlittlehole.Thenitseemedtostopmakinganyprogress.Itappearedasifithadgottenasfarasitcouldanditcouldgonofarther.Thenthemandecidedtohelpthebutterfly,sohetookapairofscissorsandcuttheremainingbitofthecocoon.Thebutterflythencameouteasily.

Butithadaswollenbodyandsmall,shriveledwings.Themancontinuedtowatchthebutterflybecauseheexpectedthat,atanymoment,thewingswouldenlargeandexpandtobeabletosupportthebody,ortheywouldbesmaller.Neitherhappened!

Infact,thebutterflyspenttherestofitslifecrawlingaroundwithaswollenbodyandshriveled（枯萎）wings.Itneverwasabletofly.
