constructionbeganonmarch12,1926andwascompletedin1929whentheremainsofdr.SunYatsenwastransportedfromBeijingandburiedatthepresentsiteonJune1.

（生平）drSunYatsen,alsonamedSunwenorSunzhongshan,heisthegreatforerunnerofchinesedemocraticrevolution.onoctober12,1866,dr.sunwasborninapeasantfamilyinguangdongprovince.in1905,hesetup“chineseRevolutionaryLeague”injapan.heputforwardthefamousguidingprinciple-”ExpellingTartars,Restorationofchina,EstablishmentofRepublicandequalizationofland”andthethreepeople&

sprinciples-”nationalism,democracyandPeople&

slivelihood.”.onoctober10,1911,thewuchanguprisingbrokeoutanddr.sunwaselectedinrterimpresidentoftheRepublicofchinabyrepresentativesfromseventeenprovinces.onthefollowingnewyear&

sday（january1,1912）dr.suntooktheoathofofficeinnanjing.fromthenon,dr.sun

experiencedyuanshikai&

susurpation,thesecondrevolutionandsoon.in1911,dr.sunYatsenbroughttogetherthechineseRevolutionaryLeagueandotherrevolutionarygroupstoformastrongerorganizationcalledthechineseKuomintang.atthefirstnationalcongressofthechinese

Kuomintangin1924,hedevelopedtheoldThreePeople’sPrinciplestothenewThreePeople’sPrinciplesbyadoptingthepolicyof“alliancewithRussia,cooperationwiththecommunistPartyandassistancetopeasantsandworkers.”innovember1924,inspiteofhisillness,dr.sunwentuptobeijingtodiscussstateaffairswithgeneralfengyuxiang.

Unfortunately,hebrokedownfromconstantoverworkandpassedawayonmarch12,1925.

itissaidthatfarbeforemr.suntookofficein1912,theabbotoflingumonasteryhadrecommendedhimthathisplaceisgoodforgeomanticomen.onmarch31,1912dr.sunresignedasapoliticalcompromiseforthesakeoftheunionofthenorthchinaandthesouthchina.onedayoftheearlyapril,hewenthuntingwithhuhanminaroundthepietytombofmingdynasty.dr.sunwasreallysoamazedbythebeautifulenvironmentthathesaid:

〝iwishicouldbebestowedapieceoflandbypeopleandbeburiedhereaftermydeath”.Surely,thereasonhechosePurplemountainashispermanentresting-placeistocommemoratetherevolutionof1911andtoencouragetherevolutionaries.inordertorespectdr.sun&

swish,

theFuneralcommittee,includinghiswifesongqinglingandhissonsunke,examinedtheareaandchosethesiteforthemausoleum.Theysponsoredacompetitionforthedesignofmausoleum.ayoungarchitectnamedluyanzhiwashonoredtowinthecompetitionwithhisdesignandwasappointedthechiefarchitectandengineerfortheproject.

（孝经鼎）dr.SunYatsen’smausoleumwasdesignedintheshapeofalibertybell,intendingtoremindpeoplenevertoget

self-contented.Pleaselooktothesouth.thereisaoctagonalstoneplatforminthreelevelofwitheachenclosedbyastonerailing.onthetopleveloftheplatformstandsathecopper”ding”withtwoloopedhandlesandtwolegs,weighing5000kilogram.itis4.25metershighanditsdiameteris1.23meters.itwaspresentedbymr.daiJitaoandallthestudentsandfacultyofzhongshanUniversity.onesideofthe”ding”isengravedwiththreecharacters”intelligence,humanityandbrevity”.Thesethreewordsaretheschoolinstructionofzhongshan

university.insideofthe”ding”standsahexagonalcoppertabletonwhichdaijitao&

smother&

shandwritingofthe”filialpiety”isengraved.（博爱坊）Steppingonthesteps,attheoppositesideofthe“ding”,wewillseeasoaringmemorialarchwaywithfourcolumns.thearchwaywasbuiltbetween1931and1933,12metershightand17.3metersinwidth.now,lookupattheshiningwordsinscribedonthehorizontalboard.thewordinenglishmeanfraternity.theywerewrittenbydr.sunyat-sen.Thesetwowordsarequotedfromatangdynastypoethanyu&

s”fraternityishumanity”.dr.sundevotedhiswholelifetodemocraticrevolutionwithgreatfraternityandstruggledforthenationalindependence.Sowecansaythat”fraternity”isthebestgeneralizationofhislife.

（墓道）Furtherfromthefraternityarchway,thereisa480meterslongtombavenueleadingtothemausoleum.Bothsidesoftheavenueareplantedwithpines,gingkoandmapletreesetc,havingreplacedthestonestatuesandanimalsbeforeancienttombs.Thetombavenueinsuchadesignmaybestembodydr.Sun’sspiritandnoblecharacter.

（陵门）attheendofthetombavenuestandsamagnificententrancetower.itissingle-eavedandgable-roofedwithbule-glazedtiles

too.Underthefronteaveofthetower,dr.SunYatsen’smotto“TheworldBelongstothePeople”canbeseen.dr.Sunoftenwrotethemduringhislifeasthewordingforascroll,becausethisistheloftyidealthatdr.Sunpursuedallhislife.

（碑亭）now,wehavepassedtheentrancetower,infrontofusisthetabletpavilion.Erectedinthemiddleofthepavilionisaneightmetershighstelewhichwasengravedwith24gold-platingcharacters”chineseKuomintangburiedpremiersunhereonjune1,18thyearoftherepublicofchina”.Thesewordswerewrittenbyoneofthefoundermembersofkuomintang,tanyankai.

（纪念堂）ascendingthesteps,nowweareinfrontofthememorialhallandthecoffinchamber.Theyarethemajorpartsofthemausoleum.Thelintelofthememorialhallisinscribedwith“nationalism,democraticrightsandpeople’slivelihood”.averticalplaqueundertheeaveisinscribedwith4characters“haoqichangcun”meaningimperishablenoblespirit.Pleasefollowmeintothememorialhall.inthecenterofthememorialhallsitstheitalianwhitemarblestatueofdr.SunYatsenmountedonpedestalcarvedinbas-reliefbyPolishsculptorabouthisrevolutionaryactivities.Thesurroundingwallsareinscribedwiththenationalconstitutionwriteenbydr.SunYatsen.

（墓室）Behindthememorialhall,wehavecometothecoffinchamber.Thetombisahalfglobeinshape.ThevaultceilingofthechamberisdecoratedbyaK.m.T.emblem.inthemiddleofthechamberisaroundtombpitenclosedbyamarblerailing,andinwhichamarblecoffinisplacedwiththesleepingstatusofdr.Suninchinesetunicsuitonitstop,asifhewererestinginpeace.Buthisremainsareburied5metersdeepunderneath.

Hello,everybody,thisisdr.SunYat-sen’smausoleum,afamous5ascenicareaofnanjing.itisthetombofdr.SunYat-sen,thegreatforerunnerofthechinesedemocraticrevolution.designedbyLvYanzhi,themainbuildingofthismausoleumwasbuiltrecliningonthemountainanditsplanelayouttakestheshapeofakindofwoodenbell,symbolizingadmonishmenttopeopleinthefollowinggenerationanddisseminationofdr.Sun’sspirit.

in1866,dr.SunYat-senwasbornincuihengVillage,Xiangshancounty,GuangdongProvince.whenhewasyoung,helearnedmedicine,butlatergaveitupforpolitics.in1905,dr.SunsetupthechineseallianceinJapan,hesworeinnanjingonJanuary1,1912.in1919,dr.SunreorganizedtheRevolutionaryPartyofchinaandchangeditsnameintotheKmT.in1921,hetookofficeinGuangzhou.attheendof1924,hewenttoBeijingtodiscussstateaffairsinspiteofhispoorhealthattheinvitationofFengYuxiang.dr.SunYat-senpassedawayinBeijingonmarch12,1925.accordingtodr.Sun’slastwish,nanjingwaschosenashisplaceofpermanentrest.Theconstructionofthemausoleumwasstartedin1926,andcompletedinthespringof1929.onJune1ofthesameyear,agrandfuneralceremonywasheld.

Pleaselookatthesouthofthesquare.onthetopofthestonetablestandsatripodmadeofredcopper,whichweighs5000kilogramsandis4.25metershigh.ThetripodwasdonatedbydaiJitaoaswellasallthestudentsandfacultiesofSunYat-senUniversity.castonthebellyofthetripodarethreechinesecharacters“wisdom,Benevolenceandcourage”.intheinteriorofthetripodisplacedwithahexagonalcopperplate,engravedonwhichisthefulltextoftheclassicofFilialPietywrittenbymr.dai’smother.

walkingup,wewillseeamemorialgatewaywithfourcolumnsandthreegatesattheentranceofthemausoleum.itwasbuiltin1933.atthecenterofthelintelisengravedwith“UniversalFraternity”ofdr.Sun’shandwriting.Thesetwochinesecharacterswerequotedfrom“Universalfraternityisbenevolence”from“ontheoriginoftheway”writtenbyHanYu.

Let’sgoon,thereisa480-meterlongthree-flighttombpathleadingtothemausoleum.onbothsidesareplantedwithcedarsandcypressesinsteadofstonepersonsandanimals,symbolizingdr.SunYat-sen’srevolutionaryspiritandnoblequalities.

attheendofthetombpathstandsanentrancegate,whichisasingled-eavedandgable-roofedbuildingputupinthestyleofthetraditionalpalace.itisthegateofthemausoleum.Beforethegatewecanfindasquarewhichisplantedwithmanytreesallround,makingthesquareseemextremelysolemnandsimple.ThestonelionsinfrontofthegateweregiftsfromSongzheyuan.inthemiddleofthehorizontallintelatthemausoleumgateisinscribedwithdr.SunYat-sen’shandwritingof“Theworldbelongstothepublic”.Thesefourchinesecharactersarequotedfrom“whenthegreatwayisfollowed,theworldwillbelongtothepublic”writtenbyconfucius.

Behindthegateofthemausoleum,wecanseeamonumentpavilionfeaturedbyoverlappedeavesandgableroofcoveredwithglazedbluetiles.Erectedinthemiddleofthepavilionisan

8.1-meterhighmonumentengravedwithbiggold-plated“PresidentSunYat-senBuriedherebytheKuomingtangonJune1oftheeighteenthyearoftheRepublicofchina”personallyinscribedbyTanYankai.Thereisnoinscriptionsoppositebecauseeverychinesehadknownhimdeeply.

Behindthemonumentpavilionareeightflightsof290steps,symbolizingtheTherePrinciplesofPeopleandFive-Powerconstitution.onthefourth-floorplatform,thereisapairoftripodsmadeofredcopper.onthesurfaceofthetripodsiscarvedwith“GrandFuneralceremony”.onthebronzetripodonthewesternside,thereare2bulletholesshotbyJapaneseinvadersin1937.onthefifth-floorplatformstandsapairofgreystonelionswhicharemasterpiecesofmr.Jiangwenzi,afamousstonemasonofFujianProvince.

Steppingontotheeighth-floorplatform,wearriveatthehighestpointofthemausoleum.oneachsideoftheplatformentrance,thereisanancientgreystonetripoddonatedbythewholefamilyofSunKe,theeldestsonofdr.SunYat-sen,togetherwithapairofmarbleornamentalcolumnsonbothoftheleftandtherightsides.inthemiddleofplatformisamemorialHallbuilt

inthestyleofthetraditionalchinesepalace.Themiddleiscarvedwithdr.SunYat-sen’shandwritingof“Tureessenceofheavenandearth”.Threearchesopeninthefrontand“nationalism,civilrightsandpeople’slivelihood”
