Abstract:

CultureisanveryimportantpartinChinaandAmerica.Asapartofculture,diningetiquettesandlanguageplayimportantrolesinlife.ThepaperoverviewsthedevelopmentofChineseandAmericanlanguageandcultureofdining.Bycomparison,thepaperrevealsthefeaturesanddifferencesofdininglanguageandcultureandanalyzetheinfluencesresultingfromthedifferences.Westudythesedifferencesandthenfindoutthepointsthatcanbedigested,inordertofacilitatethecommunicationaboutculturesbetweenChinaandtheAmerica.FromtheIcebergTheory,thenationalculturebringingoutthedifferencesandinfluenceswillalsobediscussed.Furthermore,thepaperproposesmanysuggestionstomakesurethedifferencescanbeemployedinarightway,thepurposeistopromoteabettercommunicationbetweenChinaandtheAmerica,absorbexcellentculturemutuallyandmakeprogresstogether.

1.Introduction

TaiwanProfessorZhangQigonghassaid,“Theoldsaying:

Eat,drink,man,womanwhowishesgreatly”.Forsuchastandardthing,Americanculturecanbesaidtobemanandwomanculture.ButtheChinesecultureisdifferent,whichcanbesaidtobeadietaryculture.“Becauseoftheculturaltraditions,theAmericanlivestendtomenandwomen,however,duetothenarrowgenderrelations,Chinesepeoplearedumpingguidanceonlifeintherestaurants.Sothetablemannersareabundantinculture.Tableculturehavenotbeendevelopedenoughinthewest,butthisunderdevelopmentitselfisbecauseofthedevelopmentofaculture,soitisofsignificancetolearnthefoodculturesofChineseandAmericandiet.BytheanalysisofthedifferencesbetweenChineseandAmericantablelanguageandcultures,wemayunderstandtherespectiveculturaltraditionsbothinChinaandAmerica.

2.Comparisonondailymeal.

TheChinesedietisskillfully,andtheprocessiscomplete,rigorous.Besides,thewaysofcookingsuchascomplexandchangeablecharacteristicsintheworldhistoryofcookingisascience.Allthesemakethespecialfoodculture.InChinesedailymeal,thebasicfoodsarerice,noodlessoonandsoforth.Andthemaindishesaremeat,vegetables,andseafoodetc.Theycarethecollocationofvegetableandmeat,color,smell,taste,shape,texture,suchastheorganiccombinationoftheraise.Thereexitsmanycookingmethods,suchasdecoct,fry,blast,rinse,andsoon.

InChina,thedietarysystemincludesthreemeals.AtypicalChinesemealbeginswithsomecoldfood,likeboiledpeanutsandsmashedcucumber.Thesearefollowedbythemaincourses,rice,hotmeatandvegetable.Atlast,soupisbroughtout,whichisfollowedbythemainfood,whichisusuallynoodlesorsometimesdumplings.

Americaisaimmigrationnation.AftertheColumbusdiscoveredAmericain1492,somecountriesofEuropebegantoimmigrategraduallytoNorthAmerica.WiththedevelopmentofAmericaneconomy,atthesametimetheybringlifehabits,thecookingskills,andsoontoAmerica,soAmericandiningculturecanbetreatedasthecombinationofnorthandsouth.
