ThereasonthatHalloweenisfilledwithscaryimagesgoesbackmorethan2,000years.InancientBritainandIreland,October31wasthelastdayoftheyear.Itwastheendofthegrowingseasonandthebeginningofwinter,atimeofdarknessanddeath.

Peoplebelievedthatonthisdayghostsreturnedtotheearth,soitbecameafestivalforthegodofthedead.Inordertoscare(吓跑)theghostsaway,peoplebuilthugefiresandworecostumesmadeofanimalskins.

AnotherpopularHalloweenactivityistovisita“hauntedhouse.”Usuallyyouhavetobuyatickettogetin.Asyougofromroomtoroom,youmeetonescarythingafteranother.

Monsters&witchesmightjumpoutatyouinthedark.Youmighthearscreams&criesfrombehind,asifsomeoneisbeingkilled.Oryoumightsuddenlyfeelaspiderwebinyourface.It’sbestnottogoalone!
