Earlylife
DianaFrancesSpencerwastheyoungestdaughterofJohnSpencer,ViscountAlthorp(laterthe8thEarlSpencer),whowasofBritishdescent,andFrancesSpencer,ViscountessAlthorp(formerlytheHonourableFrancesBurkeRoche,andlaterFrancesShandKydd),whowasofEnglishandIrishdescent.ShewasbornatParkHouse,SandringhaminNorfolk,England,on1July1961at18.45,andwasbaptisedon30August1961atSt.MaryMagdaleneChurchbytheRt.Rev.PercyHerbert(rectorofthechurchandformerBishopofNorwichandBlackburn),withgodparentsthatincludedJohnFloyd(thechairmanofChristie's).Shewasthethirdoffourchildrenofthecouple,witholdersistersSarah(born19March1955)andJane(born11February1957),aswellasayoungerbrother,CharlesSpencer,9thEarlSpencer(born20May1964).
