I.Lead-in(20’)
1.Roughintroductionofreligionswillbegiven.Theconceptanddefinitionofreligionswillbeclarifiedandtheoriginofreligionswillbediscussed.Referentialanswerswillbeprovided.
1)ReligionisBeliefintheexistenceofasupernaturalrulingpower,thecreatorandcontrolleroftheuniverse,whohasgiventomanaspiritualnaturewhichcontinuestoexistafterthedeathofthebody.
Religionisbeliefinagodorgodsandtheactivitiesthatareconnectedwiththisbelief,suchasprayerorworshipinachurchortemple.Thewordreligionissometimesusedinterchangeablywithfaithorbeliefsystem,butitismorethanprivatebeliefandhasapublicaspect.Mostreligionshaveorganizedbehaviors,congregations(gatheringofpeople)forprayer,priestlyhierarchies(organizationwithgradesofauthorityfromlowesttohighest),holyplacesandscriptures(sacredbookofareligion.e.g.theBible经文).
2)Wheredoesreligioncomefrom?
Humanswereweakandignorantoftheforcesofnaturethatsurroundedthem.Theywereatthemercyofthetheseforcesandthereforedevisedascheme(thinkoutorderedsystem)ofgodsandspiritstowhomtheycouldprayforsupport.Religionwasdevelopedbyafewasameansofsuppressingthemasses.BelieverssaythatGodrevealedreligionandreligioustruthstohumanbeingsatsomepointintheirdevelopment.
2.Majorreligionsoftheworldwillbeintroduced,mainlyfocusingonthetypeofreligion,itsholybook,symbolandgodworshipped,itsfollowersandhouseofworship.
3.ArelativedetailedintroductiontoChristianity.
1)IntroductiontoChristianity.Christianityisthelargestworldreligionatthemoment.Ithasover2billionfollowers,whoclassifythemselvesunder34,000differentdenominations.Initially,ChristianitywasderivedfromJudaism,asJesusChristwasaJew,aswerehistwelvedisciples.Christianityisbasedmainlyaroundthelife,deathandresurrectionofJesusChrist,ChristiansbelieveintheBiblebeingthewordofGod.
MaingroupingofChristianity:
Catholic,Orthodox,Protestant.
2)BeliefsandPrinciples:
ChristiansbelievethatJesusChrististheanointedsaviouroftheworldandthathispresenceonearthwasthefulfillmentoftheprophesiesmadeintheOldTestamentabouttheMessiahwhowastocomeandsavehumanityfromtheirsins.ThiswasachievedforChristians,bythedeathandresurrectionofJesusChrist,wherebyhedefeatedSatanandpaidthepriceforallthesinintheworld.Theconsequenceofthisisthatanyonewhoacceptsthisbeliefisgiveneternallifeandfreedomfromsin.ChristiansholdthatJesuswillreturnonJudgmentDaytofulfilltherestoftheOldTestamentprophesies,tojudgethelivingandthedeadandestablishGod’skingdominthenewcreation.AccordingtotheGospels,JesuswasconceivedbytheHolySpiritandborntotheVirginMaryinBethlehem.NotmuchissaidaboutJesus’childhood,buthislastyearsonearthwereheavilydocumentedintheGospels.ChristiansconsiderJesus’death,resurrectionandascensiontobethemostimportantdoctrinesintheirfaith.ThisisbecauseJesusshowshisomnipotenceoverdeathandultimatelyisthemostconvincingevidenceforChristiansthatheisfullyGod.
