Itwasattheageof20thatHawkingfirstnoticedsomethingwaswrongwithhim.Hestartedtobump（撞）intothings.WhenhevisitedhisfamilyatChristmastime,hismotherwassoworriedthatshemadehimseeadoctor.Hawkingwassenttohospitalfortests.Finally,theresultcameback.Hehadmotorneurondisease,anincurableillnesswhichwouldmakehimunabletospeak,breatheormovewithoutthehelpofamachine.Doctorssaidtheyhadnowaytohelphim.Hewoulddiebeforehewas23.
