(1)–Agents
TivoliEnterpriseMonitoringAgents(TEMA)arethedatacollectorsforyourenterprisemonitoringsolution.Theyareinstalledtogatherdatafromoneormultiplesystemsthatarecriticalforyourbusiness.
DatathatiscollectedbytheagentsissenttoacentralrepositorycalledtheTivoliEnterpriseMonitoringServer.
Agentsaretype-specific(l.e.Unix,Linux,Windows,SAP,DB2).Thegranularityisfrequentlyperinstance(l.e.Database,MQQueueManager,MessageBroker).
TheUniversalAgent(UA)isagenericagentandextendstheperformanceandavailabilitymanagementcapabilitiesofITMtoapplicationsandoperatingsystemsnototherwisecoveredbyotherITMagents.UAalsoprovidesameansofagent-lessmonitoring.

TheUniversalAgent(UA)isagenericagentandextendstheperformanceandavailabilitymanagementcapabilitiesofITMtoapplicationsandoperatingsystemsnototherwisecoveredbyotherITMagents.
TheIBMTivoliUniversalAgentprovidesthefollowing:

ComponentDescription(3)–TEMS
TheTivoliEnterpriseMonitoringServer(TEMS)canbeseenasthecentralrepositoryforallmonitoringconfiguration.Itparticularlystoresthedefinitionsforconditionsthatindicateaproblemwithaparticularresource.Italsocontrolsthesecurityforyourmonitoringsolution.
TheTEMSknowswheretogetthedatawhenitneedsit–fromtheTEMSDB,fromtheTDW,orfromtheagent.TheTEMShidesthetruelocationofthedatafromtheenduser.
EachenterprisemonitoringsolutionmustcontainoneHubTEMS,andcanincludemultipleRemoteTEMSs,whichareusedtoscalelargeinstallations.
InformationthatisstoredintheTEMSDB:
SituationDefinitions,Policies.YoucanalsecollectandstorehistoricaldatainfilesattheTEMS.
ComponentDescription(4)–TEPS
ThekeypurposeoftheTivoliEnterprisePortalServer(TEPS)istoactasthevisualizationserverforthesystem,andtoprovidethebridgebetweenthehumanandthemanagementsystem(translatingscreenactionstoqueriesandprocessingresponsedata).Itfunctionsasarepositoryforalluserdata,suchastheuserIdsanduseraccesscontrolforthemonitoringdata,meaningwhatdataeachuserwillbeabletoaccesssandhowitisdisplayed.
ItconnectstotheHubTEMSandcanbeaccessedbytheTEPclients.
TheTEPSDatabaseisusedtostoreinternaldatausedbytheTEPS(TEPuserIds,queries,navigatorviews,andpresentationfiles).
TheTEPclientistheUIclientforITMv6.1.TwotypesofTEPclientsareprovided,thedesktopandthebrowsermode.Botharenearlyidenticalincapability.
TheTEPClientBrowsermodecanbeeasilyaccessedthroughanInternetExplorerbrowserbypointingittotheURL(hostnameandportnumber)oftheTEPserver.
TheTEPClientDesktopmodeisanapplicationinstalledandrunningonaworkstationfromwhereitisaccessed.
ComponentDescription(5)–Warehouse
TheWarehouseProxyAgentthewarehouseproxyisthebridgebetweentheactivemonitoringsystemandthehistoricaldatarepository.Ithandleswarehousingrequestsfromallmanagedsystemsintheenterprise.ItusesODBCtowritethehistoricaldatatoasupportedrelationaldatabase.
OnlyonewarehouseproxyagentcanbeconfiguredandrunninginanITMinstanceatonetime.TheWarehouseProxycanonlysuccessfullyconnecttoahubmonitoringserver.
TheAggregation&PruningAgentmaintainsthedatawithinthedatawarehousebyreducing(aggregation)orremoving(pruning)databasedoncustomerspecifications.
TheITMAdministratorsetsuphowoftentocollectthedetaileddata,whatintervalstoaggregateandpruneon,andhowoftentoruntheaggregationandpruningengine.
TheTDWdatabaseasanintegralpartofthesolution.Itwillstorealargeamountofmetricdataandcustomerswillwanttohostthisdataonexistingdatabasefarms
ThedatabasewillbeusedbytheTEPifhistoricaldataistobepresented.
Externalreportingtoolsaswellasotherapplicationscanaccessthedataandoperateoffofthisdatabase.
