（1）–Agents

TivoliEnterpriseMonitoringAgents（TEMA）arethedatacollectorsforyourenterprisemonitoringsolution.Theyareinstalledtogatherdatafromoneormultiplesystemsthatarecriticalforyourbusiness.

DatathatiscollectedbytheagentsissenttoacentralrepositorycalledtheTivoliEnterpriseMonitoringServer.

Agentsaretype-specific（l.e.Unix,Linux,Windows,SAP,DB2）.Thegranularityisfrequentlyperinstance（l.e.Database,MQQueueManager,MessageBroker）.

TheUniversalAgent（UA）isagenericagentandextendstheperformanceandavailabilitymanagementcapabilitiesofITMtoapplicationsandoperatingsystemsnototherwisecoveredbyotherITMagents.UAalsoprovidesameansofagent-lessmonitoring.

ComponentDescription（3）–TEMS

TheTivoliEnterpriseMonitoringServer（TEMS）canbeseenasthecentralrepositoryforallmonitoringconfiguration.Itparticularlystoresthedefinitionsforconditionsthatindicateaproblemwithaparticularresource.Italsocontrolsthesecurityforyourmonitoringsolution.

TheTEMSknowswheretogetthedatawhenitneedsit–fromtheTEMSDB,fromtheTDW,orfromtheagent.TheTEMShidesthetruelocationofthedatafromtheenduser.

EachenterprisemonitoringsolutionmustcontainoneHubTEMS,andcanincludemultipleRemoteTEMSs,whichareusedtoscalelargeinstallations.

InformationthatisstoredintheTEMSDB:

SituationDefinitions,Policies.YoucanalsecollectandstorehistoricaldatainfilesattheTEMS.

ComponentDescription（4）–TEPS

ThekeypurposeoftheTivoliEnterprisePortalServer（TEPS）istoactasthevisualizationserverforthesystem,andtoprovidethebridgebetweenthehumanandthemanagementsystem（translatingscreenactionstoqueriesandprocessingresponsedata）.Itfunctionsasarepositoryforalluserdata,suchastheuserIdsanduseraccesscontrolforthemonitoringdata,meaningwhatdataeachuserwillbeabletoaccesssandhowitisdisplayed.

ItconnectstotheHubTEMSandcanbeaccessedbytheTEPclients.

TheTEPSDatabaseisusedtostoreinternaldatausedbytheTEPS（TEPuserIds,queries,navigatorviews,andpresentationfiles）.

TheTEPclientistheUIclientforITMv6.1.TwotypesofTEPclientsareprovided,thedesktopandthebrowsermode.Botharenearlyidenticalincapability.

TheTEPClientBrowsermodecanbeeasilyaccessedthroughanInternetExplorerbrowserbypointingittotheURL（hostnameandportnumber）oftheTEPserver.

TheTEPClientDesktopmodeisanapplicationinstalledandrunningonaworkstationfromwhereitisaccessed.

ComponentDescription（5）–Warehouse

TheWarehouseProxyAgentthewarehouseproxyisthebridgebetweentheactivemonitoringsystemandthehistoricaldatarepository.Ithandleswarehousingrequestsfromallmanagedsystemsintheenterprise.ItusesODBCtowritethehistoricaldatatoasupportedrelationaldatabase.

OnlyonewarehouseproxyagentcanbeconfiguredandrunninginanITMinstanceatonetime.TheWarehouseProxycanonlysuccessfullyconnecttoahubmonitoringserver.

TheAggregation&PruningAgentmaintainsthedatawithinthedatawarehousebyreducing（aggregation）orremoving（pruning）databasedoncustomerspecifications.

TheITMAdministratorsetsuphowoftentocollectthedetaileddata,whatintervalstoaggregateandpruneon,andhowoftentoruntheaggregationandpruningengine.

TheTDWdatabaseasanintegralpartofthesolution.Itwillstorealargeamountofmetricdataandcustomerswillwanttohostthisdataonexistingdatabasefarms

ThedatabasewillbeusedbytheTEPifhistoricaldataistobepresented.

Externalreportingtoolsaswellasotherapplicationscanaccessthedataandoperateoffofthisdatabase.
