RayTokuda,a54-year-oldJapaneseAmerican,isproudofthetitlehisschoolhasgivenhim.HeisaShifu,aChinesewordliterallymeaningamaster,mentororseniorpractionerofmartialarts.

Tokudahasreasontobeproud.HehasbeeninvolvedwithChinesemartialartsforalmostfourdecades.AfterlearningthematthemartialartsschoolinNewMexicoState,todayheisamongthemostexperiencedkungfuteachersoftheschool.

PracticingmartialartstwotothreehoursandhelpingstudentsimprovetheirskillshavebecomeTokuda’sdailyroutine.Heexpectstopracticeandteachmartialartsfortherestofhislife.“I’mstilllearning.It’sworthmorethanalifetimetolearnChinesemartialarts,”hesaid.“OnceIstarted,Ijustcouldn’tstop.Ithinkit’salsothemagicofChineseculture.”
