1Definitionsofculture

Culturecanbedefinedinmanyways.Thisindicatesthatcultureisall-inclusive;itiseverythingandeverywhere.Hallremindsus:

“Cultureiscommunicationandcommunicationisculture.”

Themostwidelyaccepteddefinitionis:

“Cultureisthetotalaccumulationofbeliefs,customs,valuesbehaviours,institutionsandcommunicationpatternsthatareshared,learnedandpasseddownthroughthegenerationsinanidentifiablegroupofpeople.”(Hall,1977)

2Ingredientsofculture

Culturemaybeclassifiedbythreelargecategoriesofelements:

artifact,concepts,andbehaviors.(AlmanetandAlwan,1982)

“Whereasmoneyisconsideredanartifact,thevalueplaceduponitisaconcept,buttheactualspendingandsavingofmoneyinbehaviour.”(Samovar,Porter&Stefani,2000)

Communicationplaysanintegralpartinhumanlife.Itinvolvesthefollowingessentialingredients:
