ReflectiononMyTeacher’sEnglishTeaching

Abstract:

InEnglishclass,teachersshouldteachstudentsthesubjectknowledgeandpaymuchattentiontobroadeningtheirEnglishlearningenvironment,improvingtheirabilityoflistening,speaking,reading,writingandtranslating.Thispapertalksaboutmyteacher’sEnglish,theadvantagesandthedisadvantages,andthenIwouldliketoformageneralframeworkformyteachingandputthebenefitpointsintomyfutureteaching.

1.Introduction

ForIwasenrolledintothismajorasathisyear’sgraduates,IhavenoexperienceofEnglishteaching,thusIwouldliketorecallmyteacher’sEnglishteachingmethodfirstlyandthenformageneralframeworkformyfutureteaching.

BeforeIstudiedthiscourseandsteppedintotheplatformtoexperiencewhatisarealteacher,Ialwaysthinkteachingisaneasything.Theteacherjustneedstocopytheteachingcontentfromtheteachingreferencebooksandshowthemtothestudents.However,throughthiscourseIfeelallthethingschangedcompletely.Nomatterfromthepreparationtothepractice,fromteachingplantomyPPT,orfrommyrehearsaltomyrealshow;theyallletmehaveanentirelydifferentattitudetowardsEnglishteaching.

Throughasemester’sleaning,teachingandthinking,IhavesomeopinionsoralsocalledteachingreflectiontowardsEnglishteaching,whichincludestheaspectsoftheteacher,thestudents,theteachingmethods,theclassactivities,thetextbookandalsoabouttheteachingreflectionitself.Allofthesethinking,Iconsider,willdoagreatfavortomyteachingcareer.

2.Descriptionofmyteacher’sEnglishteaching

ForIhavenoteachingexperience,soIwouldliketorecallmyteacher’steachingmethodsfrombelowseveralaspectsfirstly.

2.1Preparationandteachingprocess

Foreachclass,myteacherpreparedalotofpicturestorealizetherevisionandteachingofthenewwords.Ifoundthattheywerequiteattractivewhenwesawthemduringtheteaching.Tosomeextent,theuseofthepicturesofsomefamousstarscouldcultivateourinteresttousetheadjectivestodescribetheirappearance,personalityandetc.Whenmyteacherteachestherelatedwordsabouttheface,forexample,roundandsquare,shepresentedsomecartoonsforcomparison.Asfarastheadjectivesofeyesandnosewereconcerned,shealsousedsomeflashcardsforpresentationandcomparison.Weinclinedtolookandsaysomethingaboutthepictures,usingtherelatedadjectives.Whenshetaughtthewordsofone’sfigureandpersonality,shefirstcalledsomestudentstotellherwhatkindoffriendstheywouldliketochooseastheirbestfriends.Shegaveussomehintswhenwemetsomedifficulties.Then,shepresentedsomepicturesforasmalltalk,askingustotalkaboutthepersonalitiesofdifferentpeopleandwhatkindofpersonwewouldliketobe.Afterthis,shegaveussometimetodescribethefamousstars,forinstance,YaoMing,HarryPorter,S.H.Eandetc.,whichcouldhelpustounderstandthemeaningsoftheadjectives.Duringthereadingpart,shepresentedsomequestionsandtasksforustoanswerandfulfill.Owingtotheuseofmultimedia,wecouldanswerthequestionsquicklyandeffectively.Inordertoavoidtheone-sidednessofcomprehension,shegaveusmoretimetoreadandpractice.Thetotalgoalwastodevelopourabilitytowriteanarticleaboutyourbestfriend.Toservethisgoal,shedesignedsomequestionsforustoanswerinadvanceandtotalkandmakeaconclusion.Inthispart,sheusedagametohelp,say,aguessinggame,askingustowritedownsomethingaboutyourfriendandreaditaloudforotherstoguesswhohe/shewas.Thismethodconqueredthemonotonyofwriting.Sheoutlinedtheimportanceofbeinganhonest,kind-heartedandhelpfulperson.Atlast,sheplayedapoemforustoenjoyandimitate,which,asIsawit,wouldpossiblyraisethethemetoahigherlevel.

2.2Students’learningprocess

  Beforeclass,ourteachertriedtorelaxusbysingingasongandaskingustowaveourhands.Alsowewereverycooperative.Duringtheclass,oncemyteacherraisedaquestion,mostofuscouldundertakebrainstormandgaveherthecorrectanswers.Whenthediscussiontimecame,shedividedusintogroupsoffour,askingustodorelatedtasks.Wewereveryhard-working.

2.3Theorganizationoftheclass

  Intermsoftheorganizationoftheclass,thereweresevenstepsindetail.Theywerewarm-up,revision,presentation,practice,conclusion,discussionandwriting.Fromtheangleofthetimecontrol,allofthestepswerecarriedoutsuccessfullyduringtheclass.Warm-upandrevisionoccupiedabout8minutes;presentationoccupied5minutes;practiceaccountedforhalfoftheclass;writinglastedabout7minutes.Teacherwasquitesatisfiedwiththepartoforalpractice,becauseeverystudentparticipatedinlisteningandtalking.Wecouldgivecorrectanswerswhenwestoodup.Thefeedbackinformationwasidealatthispoint.Meanwhile,ourteacherwasnotsatisfiedwiththewritingpart,asImentionedinpart2.2.Althoughwehadtimetowritecompositions,wedidn’thavetheopportunitiestoknowhowwellwehadwritten.Weshouldgetsomecommentsonourcomposition,forinstance,grammar,sentencestructure,hand-writingandsoon.Ifwehadfivemoreminutes,maybeourteacherwouldpresentourpaperstothewholeclassandgavesomecorrectionsifnecessary.Thelastpartwasenjoyingapoem,whichwasrelatedtothethemeoftheclass.Becauseofthelimitedtime,theteacherdidn’trealizetheteachingaimofthispart.Shejustcalledustoreadit.Ifsheremovedthispart,Ithoughtitwouldbebetterforthewritingexercise.
