ThemostcommonmistakepeopletendtomakewhilewritingisintheuseofPunctuation.Wrongpunctuationcandamagetheflowofideasandchangemeaning,butproperlyusedpunctuationnotonlyhelpsreadersunderstandyourmeaningbutalsomakesthemengrossedinyourwriting.Thefollowingdiscussionisaboutsomeofthefrequentlymisusedpunctuationmarksandwhatactuallytheircorrectapplicationshouldbe.
Punctuationhelpsreadersbreakwritingintologicalunits,makingiteasiertofollow.Punctuationincludesalltheconventionalsignsusedtoseparatewords:
spaces,first-lineindentationofparagraphs,blanklines,uppercaseletters,andvariousmarksor stops（commas,periods,semicolons,andsoon）.Punctuationisconventionalratherthanscientific,andhasevolvedovertime.Theearliestwrittenlanguages,infact,hadnopunctuationatall,writersjustRANWORDSTOGETHERFORASLONGASTHEYCAREDTOWRITE（everysooftenaboldpioneerwouldintroduceareader-friendlyinnovationlikeLowerCaseLettersor spacesbetweenwords）.
Inthemodernworldpunctuationisanimportantthingtogetrightinformalwriting.Readersofformalwritinginterpretpunctuationmistakesasasignofpoor educationor carelessness,andineithercasetendtodiscountthework'svalidity.
