red,green,blue,purpleandyellow.

“Thefindingsuggestsyoucomebynaturetomakecolordistinctions,butgivenyourcultureandlanguage,certaindistinctionsmayormaynotbeused.”explainstheleadauthorAliceSkelton,adoctoralstudentatSussex.

“Thestudysystematicallyexploredbabies’colorperception,showinghowweperceivecolorsbeforewehavethewordstodescribethem,”saysAngelaM.Brown,anexperimentalpsychologistattheOhioStateUniversity’sCollegeofOptometry,whowasnotinvolvedwiththenewresearch.Theresultsaddanewchallengetothelongnature-versus-nurture(先天与后天)debateandtheso-calledSapirWhorfhypothesis(假设)—theideathatthewayweseetheworldisshapedbylanguage.
